I was more getting at closing and reopening rather than an account maturing and being able to apply.

I've just closed my Zopa RS though and it seems sadly I'm not able to open a new regular saver pot to replace it so that answers that one at least.

    BS account/membership duration

@masonic You say that, but I believe people were caught out in the past by some BS (I've got it in my head that it was YBS specifically) applying that exact criteria - account longevity limited to open accounts only. Personally I always open an easy access account, separate from any RS I open/close, to keep an unambiguous duration of account history with every BS i bank with.

Exactly how were you able to open it? I find the app very difficult to negotiate, can't find the way to do it. I got the same early am email.

In the case of YBS, now that you mention it, I can remember there being an issue with their systems having difficulty determining the length of membership. But that was an incorrect application of the society rules IIRC. I can't remember if anyone worked around the automated system.

So if we are postulating this also could be true of Darlington, and that there could be an automation blocking someone if they didn't have a live account open for longer than a year (for sake of example), I would not be confident that my new Mat Easy Access access with first and only transaction dated 1st September 2026 would be a slam dunk for any automated membership check.

Your option is the safest for preserving a loyalty status.

Try looking on the Spend Tab, and selecting the right pointing arrow next to Benefits. That's where it was lurking a couple of weeks ago when I opened an account for my OH.

In September I have 4 maturing - Darlington, Principality 6 month, Yorkshire £50 and Monmouth- none of them have suitable alternatives to open …. unless something new comes along the only account maturing in September 2027 will be Nationwide which at least for now has a regular saver worth opening when mine matures mid September.

I am still dithering about closing Manchester regular saver 1 and then reopening - mainly for cashflow purposes - its still on the website so that still seems possible

    ZOPA

I went into Benefits and it listed 7.1% RS (which is now showing as active in green font, if I do the same thing) but at the time it said 'set up now' in grey font. It also shows 2% on bank balance (active in green) & 2% cashback (set up now in grey font since I'm not using DD on this acct). I pressed the arrow where it listed the RS and it opened the application, it took seconds). I received email confirmation in minutes and funded straight away, will have to wait until Sept 1st to see if I can fund again then or have to wait a month, as it did mention the monthversary would be the 30th.

Do you have Manchester Issue 2? Opening this before attempting a closure would seem sensible, in case they are one of those who shut off the online access when there is no longer an open account.

I only recently opened a Manchester Issue 1 so cannot comment on the refresh process, but if it does not require manual intervention (others can comment on that) it would seem risk free as I doubt it is going to be pulled over a weekend/Bank Holiday.

YBS have offered a £50 Regular Saver in Savings week for the last 2 years, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a replacement offered in 3 weeks time.
