By all means be punctilious. It is the way to get to the bottom of the situation. Happy to concede that the security token is different based on your experience. I was assuming the two would behave the same. I didn't know the security token existed as an alternative to the app until you brought it up.

However, it is not correct that you need to use the same device to install the app as you use to receive SMS. The app has never touched my phone and has only ever been installed on an old tablet.

So that leaves the actual requirement for being able to log in via SMS without the low limits to be: previously registering the app on any device. I don't know what happens if you change your registered mobile phone number.

It wouldn't surprise me if that's the case with VM. I can only report my own experience as an example of how things work in practice. You're not supposed to be able to close your savings account using the current account closure form either, but that has worked in the past and I am trying again this time (and will report the outcome).
