British Gas wants to fix my gas meter that works fine.
Does anybody know how to stop British Gas pestering about a smart meter.
I have had umpteen phone calls and emails that I have complained strongly about but now I'm getting a text message almost every day.
It's unwanted harassment and ought to be made illegal.
They always say my meter isn't working which is nothing but a barefaced lie.
Our boiler was serviced by them not long ago, so we asked the engineer to check the meter which he passed as perfectly fit.
I'm on a good fixed tariff with them but I am beginning to regret it since I am so frustrated with their constant pestering despite my strongly repeated refusals.

Gas meters need replacing every 10 to 20 years, how old is your gas meter?
Energy suppliers have the legal power and obligation to replace gas meters, typically when they reach the end of their certified life.

Hi,
Perhaps you should allow them to install a smart meter?
It is not harassment if they need to contact you to ensure you meet your commitment to allow them to install their metering equipment. The alternative is that (eventually) someone will turn up with a warrant

why are you so against a smart meter being fitted?

It will probably get worse with the new compensation scheme. Let them come and swap it if needed, and then you will be left in peace. But they usually do the electrics first before gas, or together, depending on who you're paying for your electric and gas. Take's less than an hour.
One other thing are you on their priority lists?

It's not your meter so if "they" deem it at the end of its life they can change it.

How do you know it is working fine? Could be over or under measuring.

I know all that but I repeat …."we asked their engineer to check the meter which he passed as perfectly fit."

Crikey ! Will they arrest me ?

Yes I am on priority because of age. Does that give them carte blancheto pester me ?

It's not "their" meter either is it ? It was in the house before we were, don't know who installed it.
As I understand it they are just a supplier, they don't own the infrastructure.
