I think I'll make a separate thread but also want to mention it here: sometimes when typing a comment the box just completely disappears, leaving only the Save Draft and Post Comment buttons. I didn't think to take a screenshot when it happened a few minutes ago, I'll try to remember next time.

At the end of the day this whole "new" editor is a mess. Its functionality compared to the old version is poor, it's user unfriendly in a myriad of ways, even notifications can be "incorrect" in that I might get one when a thread has had a new post, but the when another has been added I get a notification that there are maybe a dozen new posts and the link takes me back to previous posts I've already seen which could be days/weeks ago.
The net result of @MSE_Stephen and the rest of the team not forcing their supplier to make it like it was, is I (and I've noted others when I've looked) are just not bothering to either read and certainly post, it's just too much hassle.3 -
Hi @Phones4Chris,
We understand members' frustration with the editor, and there are certainly things we'd like to see improved too.
However, I do want to correct the impression that we can simply force our provider to make the changes we want.
The Forum runs on a third-party platform used by many other communities. It's not software developed specifically for MSE, and we don't have the ability to dictate how it works.
It's a bit like using Microsoft Office. You can report problems, request improvements and make the case for changes, but ultimately Microsoft decides what goes into its software. Being a paying customer doesn't give you the power to insist that a particular feature is changed or restored.
We regularly raise issues and push for improvements with our provider, and will continue to do so.
The 'Rich Editor' is still a work in progress rather than a finished product, and Vanilla already has its "Next Gen Editor" listed as In Progress on its development roadmap, with "a focus on improving usability, formatting and making content creation easier for everyone".
