    Hi @Le_Kirk

As mentioned in my reply to another post a few posts ago, there are bugs, and then there are feature requests.

This would fall under feature requests: it’s working as intended, just not in the way we (or members) would ideally like it to work.

For this item, and similar items raised, I can only reiterate what I mentioned previously: we can (and do) advocate for what our members want. Our forum provider is aware of the feedback, and if we’re made aware of any changes we’ll share an update here.

@MSE_Stephen so you seem to think that wanting the return of a "feature" that we used to have is going to be a low or insignificant priority, as I've seen nothing from you that suggests you told your provider that this is an important HIGH PRIORITY.

It's all very well providing tortuous workaround methods to deal with the lack of a previous feature but it is not a solution. You have got it so wrong.

In fact I'd go as far as saying that whatever contract you have with this provider it must have more holes in it than a sieve if the provider can produce an "update" that provides such degraded performance.

    Hi

What I was trying to do in my earlier replies was be clear about the limits of what we can insist on.

I can only reiterate that we haven’t contracted for a bespoke forum built around MSE’s exact requirements - we’re using a third‑party, “off‑the‑shelf” platform that’s used by hundreds (thousands?) of communities.

An analogy might be a company signing a contract with Microsoft for Microsoft 365, then - based on internal feedback - demanding how core features should work, demanding the rollback of changes. Things that even if they are possible would affect every other customer too.

I've previously made the comparison with similar forum providers like Discource - If you've ever visited more than one forum on that platform, you'll have noticed that they are all near-identical in every way bar a few branding tweaks.

Vanilla is actually much more customisable and flexible than most providers, but there are still limits to what can be changed. All Vanilla forums have moved, or will move very soon, to the exact same text editor.

What we can do is strongly emphasise what is important to our members and their preferences. And we will continue to do this.

@MSE_Stephen I've just tried doing a "partial" quote as per your suggested method in

The result was unsatisfactory, tedious, time wasting and required me to re-edit after posting to get it a little more presentable so that it was obvious which poster's comment I was referring to.

This is a totally unacceptable situation, and as I believe I commented before, is enough to put me of bothering to reply to some posts/threads where multiple or partial quoting is required to clearly address a comment or issue.

You seriously need to reconsider your supplier if the current one is not prepared to put quoting/partial quoting back as it was before this "text editor" change.

    Hi @MSE_Stephen

Re your above reply to my post, the issue I raised on the original "Rich" Editor Feedback thread lies in second place for being most upvoted, by 11. Nothing has changed since, the issue I raised is showing as active, rather than in progress. Are you able to confirm whether or not the active status (rather than in progress) suggests that the possible alternative options that you mentioned are not being considered?

    Hi @10_66

The statuses, such as 'Active', may not be a good indicator.

It is 'Active' in the sense that we have, with other Vanilla customers, asked for it. We have regularly advocated for it and emphasised strongly that it's something our members really want and rely on.

But it is not confirmed that this option is under consideration.

What I can tell you is that in product roadmap available to us, under the 'Planned' section (So possibly this year. Planned is a little further out than 'In Progress'), there is mentioned:

    Next Gen Editor

A modernized editing experience designed to make content creation faster, easier, and more flexible for all users.

With improvements to usability, formatting, and extensibility, the next generation editor supports richer content creation while reducing friction for both new and experienced contributors.

So if we don't hear about the partial quoting coming to the editor as it is today, we will be strongly advocating for it being part of that future update.
