'Rich' Editor feedback.

Hi everyone,
We’re hearing you loud and clear on the issues with the new Rich Editor.
This thread is starting to get a bit long and hard to follow, and I’m also concerned it doesn’t always show how many people are affected by each problem - and that useful context (like what an issue stops you from doing) can get lost as the thread grows.
So to help us capture issues clearly, we've decided to open a dedicated voting board for Rich Editor issues (
Probably later todayNow open). We know many of you have already shared problems in this thread, and we’re sorry if this means repeating yourself. But having each issue separated out clearly - mentioning what it prevents you from doing - will really help us understand the impact and explain it properly to our provider.
You’ll be able to add issues, upvote the ones you’re seeing too, and share helpful details.
I’ll post the link here as soon as it’s live.

It was my understanding that companies pay for the server space they require, which would now have doubled if there is an extra line between every line on the forum. Apologies if I was mistaken
The extra blank line will be generated by the equivalent of a couple of characters, not a whole line's worth. There will be a very small increase in storage, but not double.

Hi Stephen
Is there any chance that MSE will tackle some/any of the most complained about features or will it just be 'take it or leave it'?

So to help us capture issues clearly, we've decided to open a dedicated voting board for Rich Editor issues (Probably later today).
Can we have a vote on going back to the old editor, at least until the provider has a Rich one which works properly?
If the vote is in favour of reverting to the old one (as happened last time) then the people contacting the MSE Team with other issues could be advised the problem is with the provider but the majority of the forum members who voted wanted to stick with the older problematic editor (for the time being) because the alternative was worse for more members. That would be a democratic approach?

Has the way partial quotes show changed overnight?
Since the new editor came online, my quotes have shown like this:
This morning I did a quote by exactly the same method and it shows like this:
Is that a specific change that has been implemented?
"
So to help us capture issues clearly,
we've decided to open a dedicated voting board for Rich Editor issues"
So, does this mean that MSE Towers will account for the comments made thus far in this and other feedback thread since the editor was "improved"?
OR, will all prior comments be zeroed out and concerns only counted if re-submitted into the new, official, dedicated board?
Given that is putting more effort on the forum contributors, that might be seen as a sly way to reach an underhand outcome that there weren't really any issues at all when it was put to the vote and with only xx responses of concern, the new text editor was retained following democratic will.
EDIT - oddly that quote from @MSE_Stephen that I put into this post the same way as the other two quotes has presented as a hybrid of the other two formats. Very odd that doing the same thing in the same way is not resulting in the same outcome. I always thought expecting anything different was a sign of madness.

It's likely not even a per-post increase. If the text is being rendered in HTML paragraphs, which seems likely, then the margins would be controlled by potentially one line of CSS for the entire site, which is going to be less storage on the server than this post.

Thanks, but that link doesn't work for me, just a "Whoops!" page. So possibly another bug?
Using a message board shouldn't be like learning Excel or Photoshop from scratch. It should be accessible so that an 8-year-old or an 88-year-old can use it without having to remember keyboard shortcuts or workarounds. It's what any decent developer should be aiming for.
But yippee, after yonks of waiting, the double-spacing bug seems to have been fixed.

The new Rich Editor Feedback board is now live.
I've added just a couple of bugs as an example. Please post any issues you have over there. On Monday I’ll go through this thread too, in case there’s anything missing.
If you can, please add as much context as possible so the issue is clear and easy to understand - but please don’t be put off posting if that isn’t possible.

@Bridlington1 does sterling work in maintaining the Top Regular Savers thread which he has had to relaunch due to the changes MSE have made.
This has highlighted another weakness of the new system to me. If using a mobile phone, you can't see all the information unless you scroll right which makes it very difficult to use/read as per the screenshot below.

That'll be because the content has been put into a table, and the table columns (thus table width) are fixed size … use a browser with a narrower display window than the table has been sized for and the display view will have to be scrolled.
This is poor design implementation of the Table feature - it should allow column and table widths to resize based upon the width of the browser display window.
