Newish car with wrong number plates
Hi all
i bought a 10 month old car from a vw main dealer last April
The dealership about 50 miles away
Anyway I just noticed there is a front and rear reg plates are different, the first letter, both made and fitted by the same garage
The correct reg is GF ****** , but the rear plate is DF*******
Should they correct this error, ie make a new correct one and post it to me. The car still has 2 yrs warranty on it
is it worth the hassle for £20 ?

I would contact the dealer and I’m sure they will sort it out. Seems a very strange mistake to make.0

You definitely want it corrected, it's a vehicle defect and would get you a £100 fine if the police were to notice, more if you dont then correct it and are caught again.plumb1_2 said:Hi all

It's up to you if its worth getting them to do it or pay £15 to get a new plate and fit it yourself.0 -
Ask them, they should get new plates made up and send them to you. Amazed its taken you 9 months to notice,1

I'd put this in an email to the garage ASAP.
Plates have been printed on computer for years now so it's not possible for someone just to put the wrong letter on.
So, I expect the garage had plates made up for more than one car at the same time and the guy screwing the plates onto the cars got muddled up.
The issue is, potentially, there is another car driving around with your number plate on and that owner has not noticed.
If you do start getting speeding tickets (or worst) you could have a hard time proving its not you especially as the garage is not that far away and there is a fair chance the other car could be the same model and colour (hence the mix-up in the first place)

Yes, absolutely they should...
But it's taken you nine months to notice?
So which end doesn't match the V5C?

D and G could sound quite similar shouted across a noisy workshop.0 -
Pics or it didn't happen.1

But they are normally printed so whilst D and G may be done wrong the two plates should be identical. It's not a mishearing problem that creates two plates with different values.Mildly_Miffed said:D and G could sound quite similar shouted across a noisy workshop.0 -
The wife is the main driver, so only maybe drive it once a week. And we don’t wash it, we have a young lad who washes it once a month.Mildly_Miffed said:Yes, absolutely they should...

Better employ him as he has a good work ethic, which I like to encourage.
So that’s my excuse.A thankyou is payment enough .0 -
Dx plates are from Chester or Shrewsbury. Gx plates are Maidstone or Brighton.0
