Amazon account hacked

I've noticed my Amazon account has been hacked into. The email address and phone number have both been charged. It started Sunday morning, when I received an an email from Amazon telling me my email has been changed. I didn't notice this to the evening, but got in touch with them straight away. I have phoned Amazon everyday to find out what is happening but it I'm not getting anywhere. Can anyone give me any advice, please?

Contact Amazon through the account security / compromised account route, not normal customer service. Charge passwords anywhere else that used the same or similar password.0
-
So if you have no access, block your card for online payments in the app if you use it.0
-
Try clicking "forgot my password" to send a notification to a recovery; see if you get it. If not, keep doing it. Amazon should lock it to give you time.

If your account has been changed over to a new email address and password, you presumably cannot login, so cancel any card(s) linked to the account immediately, telling the card issuer they have been fraudulently compromised. Check them for any unrecognised transactions.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I was in touch with my bank and cancelled my card, they saw nothing suspicious, but I keep checking. I'm so worried due to having money in my gift card balance - which Amazon say will be okay, but as mentioned I don't seem to be getting anywhere with them - keep telling me to give them 48 hours. I just don't know how this has happened!

Be sure to turn on two factor authentication on Amazon when recovered - and every other site that supports it.
I use an authenticator app wherever possible (in preference to SMS).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards, Savings & investments, and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. This is one thing I don't understand. I received an email from them saying that I put in a request for the two step verification on the 9th January - 2 days before this all started.sausage_time said:Be sure to turn on two factor authentication on Amazon when recovered - and every other site that supports it.
