All they've done is laid the cable to a few local streets, including mine which are the closest to their new hub/exchange which is a couple of roads away and still to be completed. They'll no doubt be laying cable further in the town during the coming year before they actually go live and offer the service.dnpark38 said:iniltous.
Surprised City Fiber set their Alt network up and not providing services.
My street Alt BRSK as they installed their network to the top of the OR pole asked householders would they like to go over to them and those who said yes were connected that day.0 -

Report them then, all utilities have to reinstate to the same (required) standard.shiraz99 said:
Not unusual at all, City Fibre and Openreach FTTP are often in the same areas. TBH, I wish it wasn't the case as CF have made a right ugly mess of the pavement on our road.flaneurs_lobster said:
I'd agree, but isn't it unusual to have 2 FTTP providers on a single street?iniltous said:If they are looking at 150Mb which is faster than what FTTC can provide , alongside the lack of Gfast suppliers, suggests Openreach FTTP must be available1 -
In my area it would be the Local Council's Road Dept who have a very easy to use online form.shiraz99 said:

If you do report defects such as you mention you can request that you receive emails updating the progress.
If at the moment snow is laying in your area it will obviously take longer than normal to check the reinstatement's.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -
Cityfibre may have laid cable, but it needs joining to the network. Between cable laying and live service in our area it was many months due to the size of the area they were cabling.dnpark38 said:iniltous.

When it was launched there was only Vodaphone available, after a few months it had increased to about 6 providers, now four years later there are dozens.
OP should choose the best available now on a 1-2 year contract and then review CF options.1 -
@daveyjp I don't have an option to wait for CF even if I wanted to given my current "deal" ends next month and NOW BB are going to charge me over £41 if you want keep my FTTC product on a rolling contract basis (£31 if I sign up for another 12 months) which is why I'm looking for similar priced, or cheaper FTTP alternatives.0

Then you've already named your next BB supplier in Sky. You're not getting cheaper than that. Yes, they will put the price up each spring but when they advise you, just contact them and tell them that you're giving notice that you're switching due to the price increase. They'll either offer you a new 24 month deal or you find someone else.shiraz99 said:@daveyjp I don't have an option to wait for CF even if I wanted to given my current "deal" ends next month and NOW BB are going to charge me over £41 if you want keep my FTTC product on a rolling contract basis (£31 if I sign up for another 12 months) which is why I'm looking for similar priced, or cheaper FTTP alternatives.2 -
My street has Virgin BB available as well as CityFibre and Openreach.shiraz99 said:

@shiraz99
Yes we have Virgin but it is co-ax, an ALT BRSK and OR.
I read VM are thinking of about a take over of City Fiber and BRSK who recently merged with another Alt.
So I guess a lot of changes on the way.
We used to have at least 13 independent TV companies now we have just ITV.
Again we used to have 13 or so Cable TV companies' and which became Virgin.0 -
Yes, it does look like Sky are the way forward, given their current deal via TCB. I've been with them before for BB and TV at a different address so I assume I'll have to choose a different email to make sure I'm treated as a new customer.JSmithy45AD said:

The suggestion isn't to wait for CF by staying on FTTC.shiraz99 said:@daveyjp I don't have an option to wait for CF even if I wanted to given my current "deal" ends next month and NOW BB are going to charge me over £41 if you want keep my FTTC product on a rolling contract basis (£31 if I sign up for another 12 months) which is why I'm looking for similar priced, or cheaper FTTP alternatives.
Enter a new contract with an FTTP provider off the Openreach network (looking like Sky) and when that comes to an end your CF network should be up and running and you can then see if they are offering any cheaper deals. For comparison my current CF offer is 900Mb for £25 a month.0
