Decided to tackle a really Froggie job I've been putting off for about three weeks - scrubbing out a manky bird feeder.  Done in a trice thanks to rubber gloves, an old washing up brush and washing up liquid.  I've got another one to do, which I can't face today, but at least I know soaking the revolting things works wonders, so when this one is properly dry and put back outside I'll get the other one in and do it.

In the process I saw that the back door mat was flicked back and realised it was showing signs of a puddle.  A Wren shaped puddle.  I realise now why she's been sneaking out of the sitting room in the evenings when we're watching TV so I'll have to nip that in the bud because when I turned the rug over  there was evidence of two puddles.  Two evenings worth of sneaking.  It's fairly near the master radiator that is either on full blast or off, so there's no evidence on the carpet itself.  I've given the carpet the once over with proper carpet shampoo and a microfibre but *sigh* it's the new carpet that was laid less than a month ago.  I'll get the Bi$$el out at some point but right now we're due a couple of days of rain so the last thing I want is a wet carpet.

I have packed away all the Christmas decorations including the back garden lights, and dusted round the LR, after which DH hoovered in there.  I've planted the daffodil bulbs that DH bought as part of my Christmas present (half price at the big NT property) - had to lift the top 4 inches of frozen compost off the trug in one piece, to get to the non-frozen stuff underneath!   I've FUPA all the rest of yesterday's laundry that was airing on the bathroom radiators.  I found some lunch for us in the back of the fridge, and the remains of the Shropshire Blue have been decluttered.  I've cut up all the Christmas card pictures that I wanted for gift tags, and removed the backs (personal messages) from the cards that might be of use to someone who wants to recycle them for next year.  And I phoned the company that makes a gel pen that I've just bought,  which according to the jungle blurb is of archival quality (i.e. acid free) but says nothing on the packaging about the type of ink - yes it is acid free, so it is suitable for writing dates and names on the back of photos (but I haven't made any progress in that direction yet).

DH has a 50% off mains voucher for a local gastro pub so I haven't got to cook tonight

I need a cuppa so will head downstairs now.  Maybe DH will take his turn at making one?

Hello all. Two work shifts today.  DD and children came over between shifts.  Poppet has had a walk and from the list I dusted flat surfaces in the living room.

Evening,
a paid work day again today but from home so exercises done prior to 8am start. Prepped a slow cooker meal for dinner using chicken from the freezer. I too like you HB need to use stuff up I already have so will try to do someone very day. 

Have checked the list and those rooms are looking generally gods as did them on Sunday so need to look at some of the extras.
Priority is clear away dinner and load DW then I need to start on DGD cake topper which I will need to find appropriate images to convert into cut files. If I can get the design work done I can then do the cutting at the weekend.
carpet fitter has not rung me back today so I can only guess that he is not coming tomorrow so I am not going to move the few bits in there that need removing it can wait until the weekend.

Hi all

Had a big anxious wobble yesterday not helped by an icy drive to work.  Made myself go to yoga class last night even though I didn't feel like it.

So today was a fresh start and a better day, I think I just need to adjust back to normality.  I went for my monthly facial then came home a little early and hoovered through, put all the clean washing away and had a general tidy around. 

That will do for today.

Not as much cleaning done as I’d have liked, usual s/s of the bathroom and kitchen.

Made a tomato based sauce from scratch then used some to make chilli to go on our jacket potatoes for tea, later DS1 & his GF used some on their pizza base. 2 full jars are also in the fridge to use up in the week..
Sausage meat stuffing balls made, flash frozen then bagged for later use to use up sausages almost out of date..
Iced some cakes I made yesterday..

Went for a lunchtime walk with a good friend and we put the world to rights..

Lists made for tomorrow, have decided I need an early night!

We don't burn any solid fuel, we've insulated and boarded the attic (the roof was felted before I bought the house) and Belovéd very cleverly found a local joiner who made us secondary glazing which we put up over the winter, and we have a couple of door curtains on the draughty front and back doors.  We did all of those things over several years and it's made the house less breatheable but much warmer.  We fling open all the doors and windows in hot, dry weather to air the house completely for months.  Our dehumidifier in the basement (we're built into the side of a hill) has conked out so I need to get another one, but that'll reduce our electricity bill while it's not working.  I hope you find ways of reducing your household spends before your retirement; we're always trying to reduce ours but not to the point of being uncomfortable.  It's all a compromise.

Hello @Honey_Bear I am very interested in the secondary glazing you describe here. I have a single glazed bay window that faces the street. Someone suggested I add secondary glazing that slots in and out. This sounds like what you have described. Can you say a bit more. PM me if you would be so kind as I don't want to divert the thread. Thank you

@Natty68 please can I join as my home is constantly 'running away from me' especially when guests come. I can't afford a cleaner, so I need a system so I can get to grips with my home! Thank you

Morning all, Another lovely white picture here again today, although it is lovely to look at, it does affect my productivity. 

My list for today
Do the required uni work
Attend my placement meeting
Do paid stuff
Organise my diary as I've had to move work around due to the weather and now feeling unorganised
Spend an hour on volunteer admin
Watch the recording from Tuesday night and make a note of financial things to look into. 
Fill the DW and switch it on
S&S bathroom
Put a bag in the new bathroom bin so it's ready for use
Take DD to the stables so she can feed and check on her pony. 
Take DD to her guide group

I think that is everything that I need to tackle today. I hope everyone has a lovely Thursday.
