Samsung Phone Password Locked- how can I get it unlocked?

So my dad passed away recently and I have his Samsung mobile with me.
No one knew his passcode so we cannot actually get into the phone.
my question is, if I sell the phone on, do I have the option of a hard reset and will that wipe the passcode on it? I have tried this but not having much luck. Any advice appreciated
I think it’s an A35/36 model

Thanks for this. The only issue is I think is it needs me to access the Google account also, problem is I don’t know it0

A timely reminder to consider setting this up on your Google account (and asking relatives to think about it too)

Apple has something similar I believe.

It's supposed to be hard to factory reset Samsung phones - the idea is to make phone theft unattractive.
If a Samsung account had been set up on the phone you wouldn't even have got as far as the factory reset.
There's no way round Google's FRP system that I'm aware of, Google may make available the contents of a deceased person's account (after stringent checks) but will not divulge passwords or give over control of the account.
That phone's worth (after reset) maybe £100 tops, maybe consider if it's worth the effort.1
