A glass-roofed conservatory is basically a greenhouse attached to your house! Definitely look into how to replace the roof with an insulated one.

I'm about to go away for a week, so suspect my greenhouse will also turn into a jungle while I'm away!

KajiKita - do you know who installed the conservatory originally? When we were house hunting, we viewed a house that had a square conservatory, in a southwest facing garden. We managed to find out from the vendor who had installed the conservatory (a local firm, still in existence), and I gave them a call, and asked them if they did the 'solid roof' conversions. The lady said it had become their 'bread and butter' and although she couldn't find the details of the original install, she took a few details of the conservatory and gave a 'ball park' quote of £3,500 - which was about half of what I'd thought it was going to be, with looking at online. I was quite surprised at that - because as it was, the conservatory was useable for possibly a few weeks in spring and autumn. As it happened, we didn't proceed with the house - the neighbour was planning an extension that the seller didn't mention….. but had we bought the house, the conservatory changes would have given alot of extra space - especially as the garden was much bigger at that house.

I was surprised how 'relatively' inexpensive it was to alter.

Thanks @Greying_Pilgrim. I think it’s ancient and one of the ones that has gone bust (safestyle maybe?) But I do think we could ask the local company that we buy our replacement double glazed panels from, for a quote, if they do it.

Glad you had a good time. When I replaced my conservatory in 2020 the new one has rubber roof. I kept the base & brickwork & the old wood structure was replaced & the new roof and the windows. So glad it was done then as I could not afford it now.

    Interesting @beanielou, I hadn’t considered a rubber one

😱😱😱 till I went back to see it was merely about conservatory roofing options 🤣
