In the new charity bag, some coat hooks.
Pension frog eaten. never as bad as you expect it to be.
Several little jobs crossed off the to do list by Mr V whilst I did some batch cooking and cleaned the oven. Mr V has started to scrape layers of 3 different colour emulsion from round the bay window frame. A small thing but it looks so much smarter.
The bathroom guy came to firm up what we are having in the new bathroom and cloakroom.
MadamMim, sending love to your boy, and you.
Willowtree, hugs. It will all come right in the end when the kids are adults and can make their own choices. Amongst a very long list of selfishness and non payment of maintenance my ex got himself a very fancy car. karma, it was repossessed a few months later. My motto was and still is,there is no revenge like being happy. OMG I was so happy it hurt whenever I saw / see him! lol.
Floss, I have just about used all those balls of white wool now!
Mrs SD, I am hoping to keep the empty cupboards in the kitchen. I haven't got enough stuff to put in them. I have just watched a house prog where the man would only look at a kitchen with at least 19 cupboards. I bet he filled them with stuff that he never used!
ruby eskimo, you are doing a great thing. If your Dad is on board, I am sure your Mum will follow when their house starts to become easier to live in.

I caught the tail end of an interview on local radio today about decluttering, if I get a minute tomorrow I may try and find it. The bit I caught was about clothes and she said people tend to hold onto clothes because what they represented rather than a love of the item for example work clothes after retiring. She also agreed with a method suggested on here (not that she acknowledged it as our method 😁) of doing a bit at a time if overwhelmed ie knicker drawer today, socks tomorrow. I started that way and did the easy stuff but have grind to a temporary halt with the wardrobes and under the bed storage maybe because I know I'm never going to fit into my size 12 skinny legged premenopausal jeans again!
My sorting of paper work came in hand today, i needed the power of attorney paperwork for my elderly friend I'm down as next of kin but after a discussion with the nurse over a visitor she had I wanted some rules put in place (she's currently back to being very confused) it was stress free to be able to come home and have them in my hand within a couple of minutes especially after my conversation left me 'cross'.
And on a lighter note my sorting of my crafting bits and bobs meant I was able to quickly pull together what I wanted for my next project after finding the fabric last week, all in one place 🙂Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin24 -
I am very hungry, reading about all the lovely cooking people are doing!
@London_1 loving the stories of how the schoolchildren are being encouraged by growing things.
Very impressed by everyone's efforts, and exhausted just reading what @ruby_eskimo achieved!19 -
Finished scrubbing the rest of the kitchen. Decluttered the rest of the cupboards, lots of out of date food, 3 pan lids (no pans???), 20 broken or not need bits of utensils, broken hand blender, used countless scourers and cloths to clean the cupboards. Probably 42 items in total. 4 items listed ,salad servers (sold) 6 sundae glasses, jam thermometer and a Peter rabbit egg cup. Kitchen looks so much better and there is enough room for what’s left instead of being crammed in. Really pleased with current progress.

I popped to SA with a couple of pieces of uniform.
I had a phone call from the solicitor's office about collecting the wills. I have an appointment for Friday.
I decided to take photos and put my rocking chair on Freegle. Hope someone wants it.
I emptied and cleaned the top shelf of my food cupboard, I will do a shelf a day as it means lots of washing up - of plastic storage boxes.
I went to the undertakers and paid the bill.
There was a meeting at SA this evening.
Still ploughing through the files.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Went for a lovely walk today- Small declutter 15 minutes on the living room surfaces mainly tidying, got rid of some old flowers a dead plant and several bits of rubbish. Sold a coat on vinted I’m getting quite motivated by selling the vinted stuff! @MadamMim2013 good news about your DS my DS1 has been having MH problems for the last yr or 2 and smoking, he ended up sectioned a couple of months ago with mania and psychosis he was supposed to be recovering at home but has gone back to his uni house where they all smoke and is smoking again. I’ve said I’m not paying his rent next year because that house is full of weed and it’s not good for him very difficult to know if that is the right decision and very worried but I just feel like I’m fuelling his habit - parenthood doesn’t really get easier as they grow up! Glad yours is doing well, well done to you and him!26

@BlueJ94 great find with the plates.
@Willowtree222 sending hugs, as others have said trying to focus on you and your daughter and being happy is the best. My longest frog is over 10 years when ex stopped paying anything despite being in a v well paid job, big house and flash car and judges saying ' well he says he'll.pay so let's believe him' only pursued to demonstrate that you stand up to bullies but think ignoring and being happy is the best and a lesson I should have learnt sooner.
Dd1 came round to borrow some clothes for potential interviews at my suggestion. One item was an expensive Merino polo neck jumper that I said would be ok with smart trousers only for her to come down wearing it and point out a number of holes from moth attacks- now in recycling and another lesson to not be keeping things for best. Other items may come back so not counting but 100 emails so 2 to add

Thank you for my gold star Mrs SD, I’ll pass on my Cousin’s to her too 😊
I’ve managed to get rid of some bits on the local freebies site, including an infant car seat, (keeping in mind DS2 is nearly 8!!) which was 3.5 bags in total. I also got rid of a bag of miscellaneous bits and children’s clothes to the hospice shop, 1 bag to fabric recycling and a bag of books to the library.
My new total is 46/208
After the kitchen clear out at my Dad’s at the weekend, plus the continued moving of my Mum’s wardrobe contents, 2 bags went to the food bank, 2 bags to fabric recycling, 1.5 bags to the hospice shop, 3 bags to the charity that’s supports the Ukraine and all manner of miscellaneous stuff on the local freebies site which was came to 6 bags.
My Dad’s new total is 49/104
I sorted out some of the children’s stuff with them today that we had brought back from the container yesterday, DD is fully on board and sorted out most of her books and put some soft toys she wants to keep in the washing machine. DS2 tried hard but in the end got distracted by dinosaurs! DS1 completely not on board at all and still has 4 unopened boxes in his room and won’t do them or accept any help to get started, this is something to look forward to for another day!!
Tomorrow is container day and we’ve had a bit of good news, that they’ll move the container to the opposite side of the yard but everything has to be at floor level for it to be moved, so that’s still quite a bit of work as it’s stacked to the roof in some places but much less to have to do tomorrow. It does still need to be completely empty by the end of March but that seems much more manageable.
@London_1 Ben sounds like a fabulous teacher, I hope the school know how lucky they are to have him.
@Willowtree222 I’m sorry to hear for DD that her Dad is still prioritising things over her, I know from following your diary that this is long standing and I think your level of self control is significant and happy that you got to vent a bit, even if it falls on deaf ears. He’ll always be a t**t and your DD will always know that you were the one who looked out for her.
@ruby_eskimo such a big job in beginning to clear the stuff at your parents, it sounds like you had an exhausting weekend!
@florenceem, I hope you are managing okay.
Love to everyone xxx
