Another work week is over and I had a new mattress delivered yesterday. Luckily, the bed shop collected the old one too!
That involved moving lots of stuff around from the bedroom and the stairs, so that they could manoeuvre the mattress. I will try to go through things rather than just put them back into place.
Decluttered the remaining not-yet-planted bulbs into the garden, after doing the weeding ready for them.
Have brought the propagators and seed trays into the house from the shed, so there's less space at the moment, but I need to get some seeds sown from this month. Tomorrow is a wet day so let's see what progress I make.
Another vote for using the back of envelopes for shopping lists!!19 -

Back again! Thought I’d get my plan and diary sorted for next week while I chill in front of tv. Don’t know where i’ve put remote but the volume has gone really loud!
Been putting bits on vinted as i did a bit of random cluttering today. Some of which has already sold as I priced it to sell rather than the old chestnut of I bought it for £20 so want that back. About to pack up some books so they can go tomorrow too!
My seven focus jobs for this week are below. Mums forms have arrived so need to get them sorted.
Jan:-
- sort glasses and mugs in cupboard
- clean living room window (will take a while as not been touched in a long time )
- sort mums attendance allowance out. She already gets basic but been advised to get higher one. (this is helping to declutter my todo list)
- declutter one book (to be read on train!)
- sort top shelf of food cupboard
- 70 random items of clutter around house
- sort bathroom floor
Don’t put it down - put it away!

And im back! I dont know where todays energy has come from. Wiped worktops so Dh could make enchiladas then went and sorted the stuff from the landing that had come out of the kids room. Some down to dd2s room, bin, recycling, donating.
Came back down and finished dinner. Then the younger boys came down with a load of stuff as they had sorted some things each. I think it might finally be the last of the school books out.
There was a huge bag of sweets/snacks under DC6s bed. When they first came to stay with us they were to scared to say if they didn't like anything and had stored it all. It's all gone today (way ood, moldy, crushed flat...)
Just helped DC5 to do a job application and got in bed so will post list and be back tomorrow.

@QueenJess in the summer i disconnect the washing machine waste pipe outside and just divert it to one of those big builders trugs. You have to use it quickly or it smells a bit. Some people get upset about the quality of the water because it contains a bit of soap powder and potentially micro plastics. We don’t use much soap powder and nothing else so it’s got limited chemicals in it. This summer i watered the plants the naughty ducks can get to with rain water because I didn’t want them coming into contact with the washing machine water. The plants that solely had rain water were not nearly as healthy as the ones that had washing machine water. They were all watered the same amount. We have absolutely loads of water butts but we can go months without rain so they are not always useful.21

Saturday continued: it has stayed bright & sunny but oh so cold 🥶 DSis kindly did last night’s wudupa 🙂 I have done one load of washing which is now in the td. I see the EDT is still speeding along, so I will spend some time catching up with the cheerleading. Stayed dry until 21:00 then light drizzle turning into steady rain which has continued into Sunday morning. Dinner was spaghetti bolognaise. DH & I removed our portions of spaghetti & left the rest to cook longer for DSis. Wudupa

GrannyKate, thank you for sharing your reminiscences of the 1970’s power cuts 👏 Your poor DH 😣 I too miss Little Chef but we have found that OK Diners have good food although a completely different experience 😉 Well done on your perseverance booking flights to Portugal 👏 I went down a rabbit hole investigating when ‘everything’ (including parents sitting with children) started to became an add-on……. mid 90’s with the advent of budget airlines 😞 One of my biggest gripes is that you have to print off your own tickets & boarding passes 😖 Fingers crossed that the Tip was open 🤞
Willowtree222, pleased to hear that you are having a relaxing day after all your exertions 😊
Loving the conversation about “make do & mend” ☺️
florianatwobob, your mention of jam/glass jars, reminds me that I need to go through mine & see if any of the CS would like them 🤔
grandmanerd, Saturday was a busy day for you & Mrs Builder👏 Especially impressed with using the Kallax unit as a bed/ mattress support 😊 Although sorry to hear that you have suffered since then 😔 Hopefully now that you are sleeping better & gradually getting your supplements sorted, you will start to feel less tired 🙏 Sounds like once you have handed over the presents you will have oodles of space 😊
Excellent decluttering GrannyKate 👏 Good luck tackling two projects at the same time 🍀
vulpix, excellent work with the varnishing & getting the bed made up 👏 As to This “I changed my mind on the position. Originally I was trying to be economical and just have a replacement but I have decided I am worth it and I can have a radiator where I think is the best place for it.” you are definitely ‘worth it’ ☺️ You have definitely learned your mum’s good habits 🥹 As to your MiL, I could weep - so wasteful of both resources & money 😢 Hope you have a lovely weekend & get plenty of cuddles with the baby ☺️ & that your toddler grandson doesn’t exhaust you 😉 Yippee to work starting on the garden 🥳 Hopefully it will soon look barren rather a scene out of close encounters 🤞
Great decluttering QueenJess 👏 Sounds like DS still needs a bit of training 😉
regnbue, you are very organised 🤩
Excellent decluttering Mrs_Money_Penny especially the emails 👏 Congratulations on your new puppy ☺️ You know what comes next…….. picture please 🙏
Wednesday2000, shame about the trainers 😞 but at least you tried to clean them 🙂 Fingers crossed that you found a couple more items for the CS bag 🤞
Wonderful post London_1 👏 This “So nice to hear that the reuse and use-it-up brigade are alive and flourishing. I think although I much prefer today for living in, as its a darn sight more comfortable than 70 odd years ago I'm also glad I learned so much from my late Mum and her neighours and friends that has helped me through some pretty lean times.” is so well put & takes account of the good & bad of a bygone era 🥹 Lots of useful tips that we can all appreciate ☺️ & such a marvellous conclusion “So redistributing things is brilliant and reading on here how folk do it and pass things on is so much better than just binning things” 👏
I will say a blanket thank you to everyone who has shared & is sharing their memories of the 1970’s power cuts & the various ways they & their families coped 👏 Always so interesting 🥹
suzeesu2000, This “my darling Frankie has totally shredded a small ottoman, little toad. I have the matching bigger one in the bay window, so handy for storage. He started clawing that so I got a roll of stuff off Temu, it’s like a very, very thin self adhesive carpet. The colour is a perfect match. Apparently kitties can scratch this stuff without causing any damage. I’ve ordered more to cover the damage to the small one. It’s about £2 which I would rather spend than the £15+ for a new ottoman.” is a very useful tip 👏
QueenJess, This “I am happy to use the tiny bits of soap (I have small hands though) and when it gets too annoying I just stick the teeny bit left to the new bar. It drives my OH nuts 😆” started me giggling 🤭 I did notice that I missed out on making some awards so - two Gold Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ for reaching & passing use up targets + one Gold Star ⭐️ for passing a decluttering landmark - congratulations 🥳
TC77, lovely memories of your Dad 🥹 Pleased to hear that you have booked your flight to Australia 😊 but sorry to hear that it was so expensive 😞
QueenJess, sorry to hear that you have had to use up precious time to sort out DS’s room 😔 Although the silver lining is that you have earned another Gold Star ⭐️ for 319/365 👏
Excellent decluttering Florenceem 👏 & well done on completing more jobs from your list ☺️ You certainly had a very busy Friday
ionafan, loved This “But when DGS2 was about 3yo and staying here overnight, he got most upset when I put the toothpaste on his toothbrush, because "That's far too much, Granny - Daddy says it has to be no bigger than a pea!" so now I use only the equivalent of a single petit pois on my brush
” ☺️ Out of the mouths of babes 😂suzeesu2000, sage advice 👏
purplevamp, great work getting the door curtain & pole up 👏 Very MSE as it should help to keep the heat in 😊 Steady decluttering & I imagine you are also doing the day to day decluttering 👏
Interesting post weenancy 👏
QueenJess, This “Nope - just lazy with his head in dream world…. The life of an 8 year old boy 😂 He can do all these things but chooses not to. Why put anything away when you can do it later? He also had to be strong armed into toilet training. No problem with it at all, but as he said at the time, he wasn’t interested because it “cut into his playtime”. does sound like a typical young boy 🙊 My nephew was so lazy when he was a baby that he used to go to sleep when he was in the bath 😂 No wriggling as it would have expended too much energy 🤣
Wonderful post London_1 🥹 Some wonderful tips 👏
Green_hopeful, rather inconsiderate of your guests 😞 Although I do like This “When people come round they run the taps at max and don’t even think about it unless its my kids and they see my face.” 😉
Excellent decluttering 2Scratters especially the rubble 👏 If you don’t want to list what is decluttered perhaps take a before & after photo to confirm your progress to yourself 😊 Hopefully your new oil filled radiator will soon result in lower meter readings 🤞Good luck with your listings on marketplace 🍀
Liverpool_Anne, sounds like you had a wonderful time on Thursday 🥹 When I read This “S lives in Paris and I thought it was over a year since I had seen her but it turns out it was 3 years since we last saw each other, where does the time go?” I started trying to remember when I last met up with old colleagues - ashamed to say I have no idea 😔 Good luck with your kitchen planning 🍀 Loved your contribution to the ongoing conversation about sustainable living 🥹 especially loved your last observation that “trying not to waste things is a 2 edged sword” ☹️
ladybird1106, sorry to hear that you have been unwell this week 😔 Hopefully you are on the mend now 🙏
I have just noticed the time so will post & head to bed. Sleep tight 😴
