Good thought, HB, especially the recognition that "It's their problem, not mine." May I suggest that you write "TFM" in your diary for at least 3 sessions (am/pm/evening) - or preferably 5 or even 7 - every week. Then, if someone asks you to do something, you can say, "I'm very sorry - I've taken on a lot of TFM recently and I just don't have any spare time to sort out your problem." They probably won't dare to ask you what TFM is, so you can just relax and do exactly what you want (not need) to do and enjoy your Time For Me. I'm already filling my diary with u3a and National Trust Group meetings - all good TFM if I want some mental stimulation. I might decide nearer the date not to attend all of them, but that will be my own decision and I can use the TFM however I want. Our brains can only cope with so much, and nobody can work efficiently and accurately if their brain is already overloaded.Honey_Bear said:... me spreading myself too thin. I'm so glad I've found out now, right at the beginning of the year because it means I can add to the changes I know I have to implement this year - I need to say No to people and not think that because I can solve their problem I should do so. It's their problem, not mine. I can't go on like this. I need more time for the things I commit to, and to commit to much less.I think it's only over the past few weeks that I've fully realised that there is never, ever going to be enough time to do all the things I want to do. It's not a case of lousy time management - there are only so many hours in a day and I only have so much energy.
I have kept my desk clear all day, walked Rosie in the rain, made three cakes, knitted half of the second sleeve for a baby's cardigan (decluttering some of my wool stash - the finished cardi will be passed on to a charitable organisation that supplies baby clothes to horse piddles), used up more leftovers for tea, watched the quizzes and Traitors, and am aiming for a relatively early night because tomorrow I need to finish filling and icing the cakes before breakfast so that the topping has time to set before I give them to my children..

Happy New Year to you all!
Feeling much brighter today, having gone to bed earlier last night but still had very interrupted sleep.
Exercises done this morning
Filled most of the wood architrave in the new room until I ran out (DH only used about a teaspoonful!) so I decluttered him to get more to fill the additional bits he wants me to do in the hallway.
Breakfasted, me and the dogs
Fed birds and squibbels
Sanded skirting, the filled architrave, windowsill and fireplace
Undercoated the architrave
Varnished skirting
Varnished rocking chair that was just plain wood for the last 30+ years
Painted first coat on fire surround (paint was supposed to be a specialist one for wood or metal and it was terrible so hoping it will be ok with a couple more coats)
Painted the fireplace part in black gloss and it looks lovely
Added a final coat of paint to the windowsills in the new bathroom
Filled the other parts of the hallway doorframe DH wanted filled
Cooked dinner and cleared away
Cash pots sorted
I love how the fitbit has recorded 17,000 steps today when I haven't left the house
DH got the filler, walked the dogs and watched his tablet
Tomorrow is up early to get to Dad's and get him to hospital for 0830. Not sure whether to get him settled then come home to get changed for friends mums funeral or go ready. Both are really close to home, hospital is 5 mins on a good run and the crematorium is only 5 mins from there. Then go back to pick dad up, and take him home.
Will decide in the morning.
Then I will need to add another coat of paint to the fireplace and add a topcoat to the doorframe. It might be fish and chips for tea!
Oh if anyone sees a 12" fireplace fret for sale anywhere, please let me know. I would love to get one to finish off the fireplace but as its such a small size they are about as rare as rocking horse manure.

Morning all - not had my lunch yet so it's still morning for me. Taken dog out twice so far. We had heavy rain about 4.45 am followed by showers, some sleety, until about 7. On the second dog walk, in daylight, I could see some frosty looking patches on the paths but they weren't slippery which is all I really care about! I tested them with the toe of my shoe while the dog was sniff, sniff, sniffing. Two washloads done and dried indoors. Emptied indoor bins after cleaning the bathroom sink plughole (ugh) and cleaned the kitchen cupboard where the bin sits. I wipe this round every time I do the bin but it just gets dirty again straightaway. Gave it an extra scrub this morning but I don't suppose it will last any longer.Dog is nagging me for food. I pointed out that he hasn't eaten his breakfast but he just rolled his eyes
Hope everyone's OK.9 -

Afternoon all,
Got up this morning to snow which had then frozen. As I was going to a friend’s for coffee I had to scrape the car and get as much snow off as possible, which was fun. I did DD’s car at the same time as she is working later. Drove to the next village where there was no snow but my word were the pavements and road treacherous with ice. It’s a beautiful day now although it is still -2 outside.
Flying so far has been limited to wm x 2, one of which is still swishing, and 3 cups of coffee at a friend’s house! I need to put the Christmas decorations away, and bathroom s&s has still not been crossed off. The kitchen looks presentable on the surface, so I won’t look any closer. There is lots of admin going on as DD is finalising her next backpacking adventure 😱. I am practising being supportive and confident when all I want to do is wrap her in cotton wool. As a wise flylady once said, we gave them wings, it’s really hard letting them fly but that’s what we did it for.
Right, taking down the Christmas decorations is my next task.8 -
Got up early and completed this mornings run arounds and agreed to catch up with my friend at a later date. Thankfully Dad has nothing sinister going on so that’s a big relief but does have severe diverticulitis. Mum had it for years so I know we can cope with that.
Came back home and got into my painting gear and then crashed. Physically and mentally I’m exhausted. I have napped, DH has made me copious amounts of tea and I really need to push myself to finish the painting as when it’s done there is only the radiator and carpet required to complete the room. Then I can chill.Mortgage, paid off!8
