Your ‘National Motorway Awareness Course’ offer has been Withdrawn by WEST MIDLANDS POLICE

  • I received an email from ndors saying the above. The email said if I want to know the reason, to call 101 and ask for West Midlands Police. Big mistake, I called and had a 101 phone support member complaining they should not have put 101 on the email as they can’t put anyone through. The extension they normally put people through has a full mailbox and no longer accepting message. They said just email them. I have emailed and waiting to hear back (5 days now).

I’m not sure what’s happened. I was offered a course or points, I chose the course paid and booked it. This was 4 weeks ago.

Does anyone else know what I can do? Or have come across this issue? Thank you
I also received an email from NDORS last week. Same scenario. Variable speed limit 46 in a 40 MPH limit, NIP issued by West Midlands Police in September.  NDORS advising course offer has been withdrawn by WMP.

Today I received a letter from WMP confirming ..."West Midlands Police has recently been informed of an issue affecting certain speed enforcement cases in the UK. As a precautionary step, we can confirm that no further action will be taken in relation to this matter."

I am taking this to mean that the Notice of Intended Prosecution has been cancelled. Anecdotally, I read elsewhere that this is not an isolated instance and it could well be a "tip of the iceberg" situation.

There is a good chance that Attila will receive a similar letter.

I am writing to WMP because I would like to know what my position is. Not only did I book (and pay for) the NDORS course, I actually attended the course the day before I received the first email from NDORS. I have to say that the course was instructive and worth attending. However I would not have paid for it and taken time off work to attend were it not for the Notice of Intention to Prosecute, now withdrawn.

I wonder whether I am due a refund of the cost of the course??
  • I received a speeding ticket from the 15th October on the M6 between junction 13 & 14 by Staffordshire police. I booked and paid for a speed awareness course however I received an email and refund on Sunday stating my offer of a course had been withdrawn, the most likely reason being I'd probably opted for the fine and points instead (which I hadn't). I dropped them an email and today I've received a response to say they have been made aware of an issue relating to speed enforcement cases across the UK and as a precaution no further action is being taken. Merry christmas 🎅

As above, Highways have identified there has been a fault with some adjustable speed cameras not adjusting quickly enough when limits have changed. They reckon they have now 'fixed' it, but a few thousand tickets were incorrectly issued which are being / will be cancelled.

I suspect that is A Big Fib, and the cameras are actually starting enforcement too quickly because the "grace period" timer is running too fast.

When you get a ticket, they usually send a photo showing the gantry to evidence the limit, and the time since the limit was set. If the timer is running crazy fast this will be way out, and a request for the logs from VSL control would show that they can't even measure time properly, so any amateur could convince a Court that the camera isn't working properly and get the case dropped (if they have dash cam evidence of the limit changing as they approached the gantry, getting flashed and receiving a photo claiming the lower limit had been in force for minutes or hours- but potentially anyone could show a discrepancy between when the camera reported the limit was set and the VSL logs for any ticket, hence having to cancel all of them rather than have a flood of people demonstrating that the cameras don't work properly)

It can't be reacting too slowly, as that would only affect people when the limit rises, and the photo would show they were travelling below the speed on the gantry- the operator check would stop most of them going out, and any that got out would be queried by the recipient when they saw the photo.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

It says fines will be refunded and points will be removed. No mention of refunds for speed awareness courses though. Also says this which would explain why courses cancelled and action stopped:

Meanwhile, police forces have stopped issuing fines from variable cameras until they have confidence in their accuracy.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Quick question, what was the email address you emailed and how long did it take for you to get a response?
  • I've had exactly the same thing, waiting for my letter to confirm no further action needs to be taken and that the matter is now closed 🤞
