Manky and horrific dishwasher bailed out at the vol job. No tablets but left it to run on highest/hottest setting to kill bugs etc. Tablets bought.
My DW emptied.

That's quite some haul from the allotment Fayolle. Well done on all the work you must have put in earlier in the year.Three costumes finished very late last night, one monk's cowl half done so I'll finish that this morning so they have their frocks for the dress rehearsal this afternoon. Cutting it a bit tight but it's the best I could do.Wren has been very bored with me sitting at my sewing maching for so long every day, so she's been removing card from the recycling bin next to my desk and giving it all a good chew. I've tried to keep on top of all the chewed bits every day but inevitably there are small soggy bits of thoroughly chewed papermash all over the house. Grr.Better is good enough.Note to self: Motivation follows Action, not the other way around.6

Morning all, I ended up going to the hospital last night as I was in a lot of pain in my abdomen, turns out I've got inflammation in the muscles between my ribs, so today will be a bit of a rest day.
My list for today
Take the dog for a long walk
Go into town to collect an order and do some festive shopping
Check banking and dds
Post the empty ink cartridges
Load the DW and switch it on
Apply for a couple of jobs
Make a budget spreadsheet for 2026
Sort through the cupboard and look into trading some cds/dvds as we never use them
Add 5 items to V
Take DD to the stables so she can feed and check on her pony
I think that is everything that I need to tackle today. I hope everyone has a lovely Friday.

Morning all,
An eventful 12 hours, with the mains water being reduced to a dribble yesterday evening. I filled the kettles and water bottles, after all cups of tea were a priority! There is still an issue, but water has been restored albeit probably temporarily, with tankers on stand by to pump drinking water into the system. I have run the wm this morning in anticipation that I may not get a load through at the weekend.
Yesterday turned into an unplanned day in the craft room, in order to keep out of the plasterer’s way as much as possible. Left over fabric used to fashion a couple of bottle bag for Xmas presents, and some jam pot covers also made. My excuse is that it is reducing my scrap pile…
MadamMim2013 - I am very lucky that my plots (1.5 of them) are on a parish council site in the village. The plots are smaller than average plots, to enable as many people to have one when the PC decided to set the field aside for allotments about 15 years or so ago. We pay substantially less than I have read about elsewhere. I was given my first plot for free for a year as it was so neglected, as long as I took a half plot that I paid for. After about 5 years, I am finally getting to grips with them both, but giving up has been a distinct possibility a few times, especially when working full time and running DD around. Now I am lucky enough to not be working, this year has been distinctly more positive, and it has become my outdoor gym (I hate the thought of a real gym). Cost vs benefit (whether that is social, having your own f&v on the table, or exercise, or all 3 as in my case) is a consideration. I would say don’t underestimate the commitment required, so many people I see take one on, go great guns, then get despondent, and ask if there are half plots or even starter plots available if you don’t want a full plot. Water is important - we had to transport our own water in barrows from home until mains water taps were installed. Also how secure the site is - again not an issue for me, but my FiL had a town centre site and regularly had it trashed, produce stolen etc. Some sites are extremely strict on upkeep. Our’s being a village community affair, is really understanding if someone is sick or just too busy to be there. I also grow flowers on my plot for pollinators and also cutting, and that is allowed in the t&cs. Some sites don’t like that but I think most are now coming round to the benefits so this probably isn’t such an issue. Good luck!
Sorry for rambling! Hope I haven’t bored you all too much.
HB, that’s amazing. “One monk’s cowl half done” isn’t something you expect to read…
Blackcats - full of admiration for you, after reading a different thread.
Have a good day all. Today I am trapped in the kitchen, so looking for all excuses not to clean it.7 -
Morning,
I started on my bedroom. Aired the bed, I couldn't open the windows as next doors dad is on the scaffolding, banging around on their extension. I have cleaned the windows though. I've semi closed the curtains as I don't like the idea of him looking in even though I doubt he would.
I've gone through the boxed shoes in the bottom of the wardrobe and added them to the upstairs charity shop pile in the spare room.
I've sorted the chairdrobe which is now a "things to try on" pile, to see if I'm too fat now.
I've tidied up/ added to my craft box.
Moved round the bags of Christmas presents that are waiting to be wrapped and hoovered that side of the room. Not much done but my back said coffee/sit down time. Had a quick phone chat with DD2 and one with my friend as he walked from one building to another at work.
Going to have a quick check online while drinking my coffee.

This is the first morning that I have spent at home for almost a fortnight. It has been almost non-stop, doing things for and with other people as well as ourselves, and I'm happy but shattered, which meant that I had to fend off a migraine yesterday. I decided first thing this morning to have a laundry day, so I threw my bedding and clothes down the stairs, scraped the clothes off DH's back and the sheets etc off his bed, and the WM and TD are going full pelt. Having dragged the Dy$0n upstairs, I now don't have the energy to use it, so I'm sitting drinking coffee instead.
After starting the first WM load I checked stocks in the utility fridge, to see if anything needed bringing through to the kitchen, and discovered a red cabbage which I had bought about a fortnight ago, so I bit the bullet and have chopped it up with shallots and apple slices, added cider vinegar, a little brown sugar and plenty of spices, and put it on to simmer in the SC for the rest of the day. It is the best way of decluttering and will make the house smell nice!
Apart from the Flylady cards which I posted to Natty a week ago, I haven't written any cards or our annual newsletter (just a few short notes with lots of photos to fil the page). No more lights have gone up since J the gardener decorated the front garden a fortnight ago, and I've still got leftover holly from last week's church workshop sitting in a crate in the utility, waiting to make a wreath for the front door. They will get done eventually, along with wrapping all the presents that I haven't bought yet because nobody has given me the DGCs' "Wanted" lists.
Jobs to be done this weekend:
- freezer stocktake
- update church website
- plant some more bulbs that I found in the back porch
- shred some ood paperwork
- deal with remaining December birthdays, i.e. send/deliver cards
- knit and sew up a cat for a keyring mascot (L the dog walker has ordered three!).
Last but not least, a big thankyou to my Secret Santa for the Advent calendar which DH and I are both enjoying - he has taken a strong liking to mint!

Errands run this morning. Taken a bag of DW tablets down to work - the DW had drained (why it behaves itself impeccably for me and acts up for others, usually not draining properly, is beyond me) so, with the pots still in, has been run again, this time with a DW tablet in. Been to chemist to collect tablets which they assured me they had when I phoned yesterday but this, apparently, was a complete mystery to them today - I'm getting mightliy fed up of them. I use them because they have a car park and are within walking distance. Not because it's my preferred chemist. Been up to the place where eggs are for sale and bought a dozen mucky, free range eggs.
Checked oil etc in car and topped up screen wash once I had fathomed how to open the bonnet.
Wrote my Christmas cards during my vertical half hour and have stamped them and updated the list. I have a jacket potato in the oven which was zapped in the microwave to start it off.
Bathroom S&S
Oh I have ironed too - and optimistically pegged out three jumpers on the line. Beds stripped and airing too.
Actually it seems I have been very productive...lolDon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Thank you @Fayolle - I think you are referring to managing to get my dad (age 98) and his very, very poorly brother (age 90) together for a birthday tea, a sing along and a hug. I'm so grateful to my uncle's care home, an amazing carer and a fabulous taxi driver for getting my uncle to my dad's.
I felt drained today after getting yesterday to work so well so I've only managed to run the hoover round and dust around the lounge. I also did some filing and shredding whilst sitting on my bottom drinking tea but I think it all counts ✅

Today has been taken up almost entirely by eating and exercise.....not a bad combination.
- put DW on, emptied and put away later
- went to Pilates
- went to aqua aerobics
- had Christmas lunch with biker friends. All lovely until just as we were leaving when I checked my phone to learn of the passing of another friend. I'm starting to feel that knowing me is a liability. Although she was older than me and had had dementia for a few years. Over the years we've met in church, had gone to flower club together for many years, then Mr N and I walked her dog during lockdown. A lady much loved by the village, loads of comments on the village FB.
- did a few more Christmas cards
- started knitting my own little 'post box toppers' to put on the posts at the end of our drive. So far I've downloaded a free snowman pattern, I'll find something for the other side - maybe Santa.
- went to zumbaRemember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.7 -
@Fayolle - Have your considered looking into edible flowers? There are quite a few of them. Then you can claim you have an edible garden.7
