@Brie the Nationwide loan is a legitimate one by me, taken out in January 2023 for five years.  That was used to buy my car.  The Novuna I took on in January 2024, to pay previous credit card debt, jointly run up by me and as part of coercion.  Then he lost his job and continued using the joint bank account so I had to use credit for essential living costs.  The other loan is for a boiler as the old one was 17 years old and beyond repair, that loan is interest free for 4 years and is due to finish January 2027.

The cards are over the past few years and I’ve been doing balance transfers to move debt which would essentially give me a month of not having to pay a card because the transfer covered it.

@Ms_Chocaholic I will look into a water meter.  I have a dishwasher do about 2 loads of washing a week, more when kids are here and water the garden in the summer.

Not sure if this is relevant to the financial abuse.  My husband is self employed in the construction industry so doesn’t get paid if he doesn’t work.  The week before Christmas last year, he was pretending to go to work.  Getting up and leaving as normal.  Except he was going to a supermarket and buying beer.  I obviously found out which wasn’t pleasant.  I don’t know if information like that can be included as evidence to write off debts for financial abuse.  I have given CAB details of the charge and crime reference number from last year.

You'll make a saving I'm sure and usually you can revert back to rateable value (which is what you are currently paying) if you don't see a saving in 12 months.  Check the website for your water company.

It’s coming up to 4 weeks since he left.  Everything is still very raw and dealing with emotions and all the practical stuff is really hard.
  • Nothing to do with the money side of things - I will leave that to the experts, but regarding the abuse, make use of the Employee Assistance Program within your local authority. They have some fantastic people to talk to and its free. It is worth it, your brain will be overloaded and it may help you.

You can apply for the 25% reduction without removing him from the electoral roll, though an email to that Department in the Council might help.
If you're happy to PM me with the area you are in I'm happy to search for email addresses and info for you.
