The 2 children you show in the household are they the 2 at university? So do they live with you all the time or just visit?

Yes they are the 2 at university.  They split their time between me and their father.  I didn’t really know how to put it on there.

CAB are going to write to the credit card companies and explain the financial abuse to see if they will do anything, although they said it’s very difficult to get them reduced or written off so I’m not holding out too much hope on that.

If you are the only full time occupant you should take them out and put a note at the bottom of the SOA saying something like 'my two adult children who are at university spend every other weekend with me and my figures include their food'

Have you considered getting a lodger?
Have you looked at affordability complaints against the larger debts, say any over £1000?

    I wouldn’t want to get a lodger!

I’ve read about affordability complaints but it’s not something I’ve looked into yet.

Well done on getting the SOA sorted - it makes more sense to me now.  (one gets accustomed to seeing things in a certain format.....)

I wondered too about affordability complaints as an add on to the financial abuse - as in "I couldn't really afford this but my abusive husband insisted".  It does like "playing" the victim but it's an accurate picture so should be considered as part of your defense, if you see what I mean.  The creditors need to see that you were not able to control the situation at the time the debts were incurred.

How long ago were some of the cards/loans taken out?  It's possible that asking them to prove you have a credit agreement with them might be a good idea for you as well.  Even if you remember signing up to something if they don't have the documentation it means that they can't prove you agreed to their T&Cs or that it was even you that took out that credit.  Some people have found that a credit will provide a CA that shows the wrong name, an address that wasn't correct at that time which throws things in to doubt and essentially wouldn't stand up in court (not that it would ever get that far, they'd cave as they'd know they couldn't win)

You're doing very well - it's going to take a lot of plodding along but the end goal will be worth it.

Do you get the 25% reduction on your Council Tax?

In terms of the water meter (I'm the one who posted about this initially) I definitely would recommend, you do hear about all the horror stories of water meters I must admit but you never hear the positive stories of which I'm sure there are many many more, including us.  I'm aware that all water companies have different charges but we pay around £25-£28 pcm, we are a small household but we have a dishwasher, the washing machine is on often and we have a decent flow shower which is used regularly, we just don't waste water, ie turn off the tap when brushing our teeth but that's as far as it goes.

Have to agree with Ms_Chocaholic. Been on a water meter for years, never had a problem (ST)
