How far are you off having to renew your licence?0

Three years off. So I'll get it done then. Assuming that process is remotely possible.Keep_pedalling said:How far are you off having to renew your licence?
For those saying user error, it's 100% not. The process has just changed so that a One Account and a DVLA account are required for updating your driving licence online. Perhaps it's possible using an app, but I refuse to do that. And apparently you can do it at the post office, for a fee, and a 35 mile trip in my case, with little guarantee that process would be any more successful.
I recall changing address on my licence online before all this nonsense was introduced. You entered your details, old and new address, and that was it. Progress.
As for ID, this is the precise reason I got a new passport. I don't plan on international travel but being cognizant of the inability of public bodies to perform the most basic task, I knew that there would be some issue updating my driving licence and therefore wanted an alternative at hand.

Just to clarify, when I said it's possible to change your driving licence address at a PO, that's not true. I just went through the entire process and I will need to present my ID and have my photo taken at a post office (for an extortionate fee) for the privilege of possibly being granted a DVLA account from which I can then change my driving licence address. Un b fkn lievable.
(Obviously I won't be doing that, but I wanted to verify that's exactly what I was being told)0 -
Just to add another dollop of incompetence on top of the teetering layer cake of government idiocy, I informed the GOV chat bot that I was unable to 'prove my ID' online to create a DVLA account. It sent a boilerplate email that included the paragraph
If you need to change your address, you must first register the account using the previous address currently on the licence. Once the account has been created you can update the address.
Yet when you go through the process, it makes no mention of this and actually explicitly requests your CURRENT address and any other addresses in the past 3 months.
So when you comply with the instructions, it refuses to ID you because you provided the specific information it requested.
Better yet, now I know how to get it to comply, it won't work, because I went through the Post Office route and it says I have to go to the Post Office and pay to prove my ID and the online option is no longer viable.
I'm not joking when I say that if I were to design a system specifically to thwart people, send them round in circles and deliver nothing, I couldn't do a better job that this digital abortion we pay for with our tax money.0 -
Changing your address on your driving licence is free.Chief_of_Staffy said:Just to clarify, when I said it's possible to change your driving licence address at a PO, that's not true. If the online method is beyond you then you get form D1 from a Post Office, fill it in and send it to Swansea with your old licence. They send a new one back.
You could even cut out the trip to the PO if you kept the form that came with your licence (I have, probably most people don't).2 -
You can park as carefully as you like. That won't necessarily stop some cowboy parking company from deciding you've done something wrong and sending you a parking charge notice.Chief_of_Staffy said:
Yep, I'll have to drive and park carefully. But unfortunately no other choice.Le_Kirk said:Just be aware that if you leave your address as the old one on driving licence and V5C that (I am not suggesting you get lots or any of these) and a parking company or the police apply to the DVLA for the Registered Keeper's address, all correspondence will go to the old address and you may end up with a CCJ by default (for a parking issue) or worse for a motoring offence.
If you can't do the address update online why not be old fashioned and post the amendment to them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. The old online service will look different to this service and you may be asked to send your identity documents by post.

Don't think the OP has volunteered their age.sheramber said:

The online method is wrong, as I've evidenced. It demonstrably asks for the wrong address if you have just moved house. If you don't believe me, try it. I didn't keep my from from 7 years ago so that wouldn't be an option.flaneurs_lobster said:

No, I'm following the correct procedure as documented. There is no site for over 70s, it asks you this as one of many irrelevant questions.sheramber said:
