Your sleap apnea machine - if fairly modern could be using 50-100W per hour - so non trivial - 0.4kWh - 0.8kWh for an 8 hour night.

That will add at the upper range maybe 150-300 kWh per year.

And I guess most of it at your meter night register.

I guess if its an older clunky NHS supplied beast it could be even more.

But given you have gas HW for tap ?

But don't discount the electric shower  - 1x10 min per day - at 9kW rating - 1.5kWh = 550 kWh per year too.

Many folk with gas might have tank or simple combi fed mixer showers - so that would drop out of the median 2700 kWh cap TDCV too.

It sounds like you might have a combi boiler - rather than a HW tank boiler - again the model number would help.

Is there any other heating - maybe a large electric towel rail in the bathroom - that might be using a lot of power - at least part of the year.

  • If your gas is only £15 a month surely your heating is electric? The amounts quoted don’t sound that bed then especially if you’re keeping the flat quite warm.

Sorry for long delay, dog was terrified for a few days due to fireworks then I was away for over a week.

Have some photos on phone which is charging so will either edit this post later or have a new post.

Noticed when I was away it was using a solid £1.10 or £1.11 a day, I took readings from most of this week and a few days the week I was away (but forgot to take some so there's a few days gap, but they match the £1.10 readings.

This week what was confusing was I returned on Monday lunchtime turned PC on quite quickly and went to bed around 11pm left house around 7am got back 6pm but the usage was near identical for those 2 days despite the Tuesday not having a PC on until about 7pm and I went to bed around 11.30pm.

I do have an external light that comes on via sensor, I had to adjust it as it was coming on all the time for about a week, but that was installed in March and as it was lighter then I switched it off and only put it back on about a month ago.

Usage stats 913.330 on Tuesday PM 945.563 now

    £1.16th 2.50 kWh 10th £1.15 2.48 kWh 11th £1.14 2.45 kWh 12th £1.10 2.30 kWh 15th £1.11 234 kWh 16th £1.88 4.91 kWh 17th £1.84 5.12 kWh 18th

To save us some simultaneous equations, what's your daily Standing Charge?

Are you now giving the supplier regular actual meter readings, and has that sorted out their billing?

All very consistent with Electricity annual consumption of 3000 kWh a year.

As per @Qyburn does your supplier bow have your actual readings ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I gave it until I came back so I had a few more days of usage rather than every day or every few days.

So we go back to what is eating up so much electricity, I also wondered if the usage when I was away sounded normal.

So I am trying to work out not just if the bill is correct in the sense of usage but why it is so high, somethings not right, had the tv on for first time in about 3 weeks last night and it only made the usage go up maybe 100w and it's an older tv.

The days of very high usage is when I used a shower and a quick wash on washing machine (which I assume most was due to the spin)

    This
This does not seem like excessive usage.

You seem focused on the computer as being the culprit, but have you looked at everything else? Have you looked at your background usage at night, with most things switched off?

Some figures from my house, as an example....

My fridge freezer uses about 1kwh in a 24 hour period. (Data from Tapo plug.)

I had my gas central heating on more of late, which accounts for increased electric usage from the combi boiler.

My background usage at night, when the fridge hasn't kicked in, is about 65w (boiler switched on but not heating, cctv x3, router, fridge freezer idling, various smart plugs, 2 x tvs on standby).

(Apologies if I've got my watts and kWh mixed up.)

There's no real short cut. But I'd suggest getting yourself a couple of TAPO 110 plugin electricity monitors. £14.98 for two in Asda the other day.

Then you can check individual devices. It shows instantaneous power, and also energy consumption in kWh on a daily and monthly basis.
