Sealed Pot Challenge ~ 19

  • £12.45 into the virtual pot this week so far - doing a purse sweep tomorrow.

Very sadly, after a lot of tears and soul-searching DH and I had to surrender Holly back to the rescue centre on Tuesday evening.  Unfortunately she had turned on DH, we don't know why, but she had become more aggressive with her nipping and jumping bodily on him unprovoked.  We did have an emergency vet visit on NYE after she swiped his sandwich with mustard on it - whether she associates him with that now, we don't know but it was a difficult weekend and it just came to a head at teatime on Tuesday when we were trying to eat and she was trying to nick it.  Because he tends to sleep downstairs and we don't have a big house where she could be kept separate at night, and because the issues have increased over the last week or so, we had to take the decision.  DH had already made the decision really, he just needed to let me reach it too.  We're devastated, I do feel like we failed, but it's a condition of the adoption that dogs should be returned to them if it doesn't work out and there's no judgement from them (and please no judgement here) - if anything they know more about her than they did, but have to be transparent when you use words like "aggressive".  And honestly, she was so happy to be back there!  We didn't get a full bum-wiggle tail-wag at any point and she just walked straight back into the kennels.  She'll be a gorgeous dog for someone but they need infinite time and energy to work on her.  We will still adopt, but something medium-sized and a bit older/house-settled/trained.  Sadly no doubt post-Christmas rehomings will give us some options.

Anyway, onwards!!  Stay safe in this inclement weather xx
I’m so so sorry sending lots of gentle hugs 💕

Sorry to hear that @MrsShazbat, we went through something similar with a rescue about 10 years ago, I just couldn't cope with the level of destruction, I tried very hard and I am a very patient person but I think we all have our limits.

@MrsShazbat, so sorry to hear your news, you must all have been heartbroken about making this decision but from what you have said it sounds like the best one for you and for Holly. The rescue has more information now thanks to your honesty and I am sure they will find a new home.

Hi Potters, what bitter weather!! STAY WARM folks, p[ease!

For any of you who are poorly or low in spirits, get well soon. Meanwhile, love from us all at SPC.  3

A brilliant amount potted thanks to your dad, bless him ThriftyPrincess40!!

    An excellent amount potted LMD!!

    Very well done MrsShazbat!!
Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about Holly and especially your poor hubby, has he had a tetnus injection?? I must admit it did concern me that they were insistent that Holly stayed on a lead whilst in the garden, it did concern me that she'd done that sort of thing before, though in which case they should have warned prospective owners.
Still Holly clearly wasn't bothered about going back, so at least she's happy, bless her.
I hope your hubby's ok, poor chap.
Take care both of you. xx

    Brilliant work LMD!

Aside from Sunday (not good) folks, have a really lovely weekend!!

    Sue

    Thanks @Sue-UU

No, she didn't bite him fully, it was always 'playful' nipping that got a bit out of hand but no skin was broken.  Given she'd never been in a house environment before the long line thing was to help teach her boundaries in the garden.  I'd done the dog-proofing but was still working on the recall.  But it wasn't to be.  We go again.

Done my first weekly purse count-up and transferred £12.23.

Oh goodness @MrsShazbat, I'm so sorry to hear about Holly, but it has to be right on both sides and it certainly sounds like it's the best decision for everyone.

£30 and something potted today.  I'd been waiting aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages for some cashback to become payable, and today was that day!  <3

that’s very good going. I’m impressed
I was lucky my dad had saved me lots of change blessings him knowing how hard things are atm it nearly filled my pot, that combined with emptying all my handbags out of desperation 🤦🏻‍♀️
Nothing desperate about that. I've gone though pockets & bags and am about to go through a couple of drawers over the weekend as I know I've thrown loose change into them, although I don't bother counting it. Personally, the fun is in not knowing the total and being surprised when cracked open  ;)  I've been out a couple of times over the past couple of days and found some roadkill - pennies the first day and £'s the second  ;)  :D All slung in the pot.....

I'm so very sorry that things didn't work out this time - There is certainly no failure on your part, I'm sure. It sounds as though Holly could do with a stint of adoption with an animal behavourist / psychologist. Some centres do have volunteers who are qualified in that area and will help, so all is not lost  <3  <3  There's the perfect dog waiting for you, you wait and see  <3  <3
