my last computer crashed, that i lost all documents. found some on onedrive, even though i had cancelled onedrive. I then had to do a reconstruct, and most of the precious photos from years ago, vanished.
Sadly onedrive and computer duplicated files so i could not trace the latest copy, hopeless when running a bank account (which file is the correct newest file.

It is beginning to drive one mad (oops for the pun)

Can I permanently cancel onedrive, and when i use Libreoffice Microsoft keeps offering before opening the Libre file?

First, you really ought to set up a rigorous and robust backup regime for when you are back up and running.  Consider local backups and off-site (perhaps using one of the cloud services).   I assume you can't access the old photos from your old phone?

Second, I assume you are using Libre office on Windows?  Someone here will know how to silence the Microsoft nags - I assume you can ignore and load/save locally.

I do/did backups but one of my fails was i thoughtvyhey wrre overwritten, but the backup producdd to the order of 6 to 7 duplicates. I now save in two places, one an external drive, to minimalise interference from onedrive

If you install Linux Mint you can run Libre Office without any OneDrive or Microsoft Office meddling

Just uninstall OneDrive.  Then it is gone and it won't get in the way.

If you have a Microsoft account you will have access to OneDrive.

    Yes, if you wish.

However your post shows the need for some kind of reliable backup system. If you want that backup to be offsite (either instead of or in addition to local) then you need to either use some kind of cloud service or set up a reliable exchange of documents with a trusted family member or friend in a different building.

For most people a reliable cloud service is the easiest and safest option and it is generally easiest and best to use it the way it is intended.
