I still don't understand what your issue is with ex rental.Guhring said:
Because their name would have been on the original V5C. The car is 2 years old.Emmia said:
Why would one previous owner give it away?Guhring said:I have looked and it does seem they had a legal obligation to disclose its rental history. And they must have known as there is only 1 previous owner.
How old is the vehicle?
Did you specifically ask "Is this car ex rental"?
Worst cars I’ve owned have generally been the ones I bought from new.0 -
No, one previous keeper.Guhring said:I have looked and it does seem they had a legal obligation to disclose its rental history. And they must have known as there is only 1 previous owner.
And knowing their identity probably wouldn't have established its rental history. Most hire cars are leased, and the RK would likely be a finance company.1 -
Bet it got washed more frequently.la531983 said:

Honest John's answers are notoriously unreliable. And in any case, the regulations cited have subsequently been revoked.Nobbie1967 said:Looks like you have a right to reject the vehicle if this wasn’t disclosed. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/183720/does-a-dealer-have-to-say-if-a-car-is-an-ex-hire-car-2 -
When I P/X my last car it was all done online. No exchange of V5, so they never saw V5. Also ex rental could well have been bought via auction & may have been under finance co, so finance co would be who sold it at auction. No mention of rental co at that point.Guhring said:I have looked and it does seem they had a legal obligation to disclose its rental history. I suspect the OP's problem is the oft quoted Clarksonism that "rental cars are the fastest cars in the word".Which used to be true before PCP & leasing became common. (Why use any less than 100% of the acceleration, braking, load capacity, cornering, ability to fly over speedhumps & ford 3 feet of water in a car that isn't yours, and you know is going back before the warranty expires?)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

It's quite likely the hire company's name wasn't on the V5. Hire companies often lease cars, so the leasing company may well have been on the V5 and you can't tell whether it was leased to an individual, to a hire company, or to a business.0

I did omit the fact I actually found enterprise rent a car paperwork in the glove box with the car’s registration on it.0

You didn't omit the information, you mentioned it in your first post.Guhring said:Hi, I’ve recently bought a new to me car from a main dealer. Since picking the car up I’ve discovered it has been a rental previously. Now this wasn’t disclosed to be before the purchase. In fact I’ve only found out because there was paperwork was left in the glove box. What if anything can I do. I have payed for the car in full with no finance. And it wasn’t exactly a cheap car at £35000. If I had known it’s rental history i simply wouldn’t have bought the car.Guhring said:I did omit the fact I actually found enterprise rent a car paperwork in the glove box with the car’s registration on it.0 -
Not an issue as long as it has a service record and is still covered by warranty its no different to any other used car.
Over the years I've done thousands of miles in ex rentals and they have been no better or worse than brand new vehicles,1
