Ex rental car

Hi, I’ve recently bought a new to me car from a main dealer. Since picking the car up I’ve discovered it has been a rental previously. Now this wasn’t disclosed to be before the purchase. In fact I’ve only found out because there was paperwork was left in the glove box. What if anything can I do. I have payed for the car in full with no finance. And it wasn’t exactly a cheap car at £35000. If I had known it’s rental history i simply wouldn’t have bought the car.

  • Absolutely nothing you can do.

Why do you think there was any obligation to disclose the fact it was? The dealer may not even have been aware.

Why does the rental history make a difference? What's your concern? All secondhand cars may have been abused in some way by their previous drivers.

Few people buy a new car to replace it 9-15 months later. 90% of them will be “ex-demo” (used by all and sundry as a courtesy car or thrashed around by technicians in a hurry to get to a training course) or ex daily rental.

Looks like you have a right to reject the vehicle if this wasn’t disclosed. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/183720/does-a-dealer-have-to-say-if-a-car-is-an-ex-hire-car-

Most dealers have it in their small print somewhere.

I have looked and it does seem they had a legal obligation to disclose its rental history. And they must have known as there is only 1 previous owner.

Why would one previous owner give it away?

    How old is the vehicle?

Because their name would have been on the original V5C. The car is 2 years old.

I still don't understand what your issue is with ex rental.

Did you specifically ask "Is this car ex rental"?

Surely its been maintained better than a private owner would do
