Thanks everyone I will look into those authors. Imagined eye candy sounds interesting. I wonder how Rutha differs from person to person’s imagination.

I think driving into a national park and not spending any money deserves a well done! Many temptations and usually extortionate parking!

Hope you're feeling even better today.

Have you tried the 'marmite lookalikes'? They are labelled 'yeast extract' and are, as far as I can tell, the same thing without the brand, and cheaper. I used to be a bit wary as they could be the wrong consistency, but they seem to have got it right over the last few years.

Yes, @Cherryfudge is right - even MrS do a mArm1te dupe, don't they? As well as MrAl - not too sure about MrL. I've had the MrS dupe. Possibly a leetle runnier (difficult to judge as I'd not bought the branded product for yonks), but taste-wise, just as good, full of the same vits etc. I think - don't quote me - but I think @EssexHebridean uses the aldee mArm1te dupe??? and finds it good enough, having previously used the branded??

    FRUGALNESS FOR TODAY.
    • visited the allotment this morning, harvested the last of the tomatoes and french beans. Also picked 4 small courgettes, cucumbers, lettuce, herbs, apples and potatoes.

    • shower water used to flush the loo.
    • used homegrown tomatoes, herbs and garlic to make pizza sauce.
    • used homegrown tomatoes to make passata sauce for later in the week.

Oh no no no - Marmite is sacrosanct in our house, along with a certain brand of coffee that MrEH prefers, and no dupes shall cross the threshold! 😁 If we're talking about stuff on toast though in terms of peanut butter I rate Al's and Lil's offerings on the "100% peanuts" type very highly indeed - when they say "crunchy" they MEAN crunchy!

I do recall someone talking about using a dupe for the yeasty stuff - can't remember who though!

I didn't know you could get dupes of the yeasty stuff - good to know as the only thing it's used for in this house (certainly by me) is for adding some depth to chilli etc. (I am very much in the hate camp, but in small untastable quantities, this is acceptable). At that price, I shall definitely be looking for an unbranded version next time!
