Can you answer where you are planning on keeping this van?Margret1994 said:how much better would a 700 pound people carrier or estate car be than a van of equal cost?
If you are living in it.
TBH, anything in the price ranges you are using is going to be lucky to be road legal once the MOT runs out.

Margret or Jim
You need more help than just the cost of a van and cost of insurance. Both of which are easy to find on autotrader and an insurance comparison site
have you spoken to anyone in a professional capacity that can help you with your problems1 -
They are not the first person to go to more than one forum for advice, and they won’t be the last. Particularly if they think they are not getting the answers they are looking for.ROY47 said:how much better would a 700 pound people carrier or estate car be than a van of equal cost?Me thinks school on half term?? OP has consistently failed to respond to questions about whether they’ve spoken to housing offices, et cetera. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
OP doesn’t actually respond to any questions which concerns me, but they are definitely ‘seeing ‘ the threads I have merged all the threads which basically all ask the same thing. I’m not sure if any further meaningful information can be given without some proper input from the OP, especially around costs of van without knowing what budget in cash OP has.elsien said:

Margret1994 said:Thanks how much more would I have to save, is it more than two 500 pound vans? Why not buy 2 cheap ones a new one IF it goes wrong?

I'd expect anything that could pass an MOT to be at least £1000, for a start.
But to this particular question; there's are costs associated with changing vehicles:Getting the new oneGetting rid of the old oneTax isn't transferable so unless it's on the first/last day of the month you're paying twiceInsurance admin costsInsurance is higher for vehicles you haven't owned long. You'll get a nicer vehicle for your money if you get an estate, but you really need to find a better option for accomodation. Have you contacted the council yet?0 -
A tent is much cheaper to buy, just as big, doesn’t require insurance tax or MOT, just as legal to live in, and must be marginally warmer than a steel box in winter. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1
-
That's what I was thinking; it's a lot of money and hassle for something that's only marginally better than a tent (because you'd have a lot of hassle finding somewhere to set up a tent).
MUCH better to talk to the council about being homeless.2
