Debit carded wanted for new (savings) bank account (building society)

They're similar to building societies - local savings and mortgages for local people. You should see if there's one near you.GringoGoesToVagas said:

Realistically I think if you want to de bank, you're going to struggle with your requirements for online payments / having a debit card

If you live in the operating area of the Cumberland Building Society then that's an option - they offer two current accounts, both of which come with debit cards. Nationwide Building Society are national, as the name suggests, but have a branch network and offer several current accounts with debit cards.GringoGoesToVagas said:I would prefer a local building socity that employ real people.
The only problem for me with this so far is buying stuff online, everything ells is cash
There are two other possible options and that is the banks that have recently been bought by building societies, these being Co-operative Bank (owned by the Coventry Building Society) and Virgin Money (owned by Nationwide Building Society). Both offer current accounts.GringoGoesToVagas said:Do nation wide offer you a cash card? The Instant Access Saver comes with a cashcard but it can only be used at Nationwide cash machines. You'd be better off with something like their FlexBasic account which comes with a debit card you can use anywhere and also offers online, telephone and branch access.

There may be one more local to you, note the monthly charge.0 -
Read his post history, it's about trying to avoid banks, tracking etc hence the comments about tattoos, not worth going down the rabbit hole of "reasoning"Rob5342 said:What are you trying to achieve here? Why do you want a savings account with somewhere that makes it so difficult to access your money and then want a debit card to make it easier to spend it. What's the problem with opening a savings account with one of the online providers and then just linking thst to your current account that has a debit card?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It's not very helpful if they don't explain the reasons in their opening post, I'm not going to go and read every post thst someone has ever made. It seems rather pointless trying to avoid banks only to immediately want to find a way to transfer money to banks.Nasqueron said:

I like the idea of a building socity because its owned by the people. In the even of a banking crash (great depression and Grease 2009) you dont loose all you money. So I have been told! And I like to be served by a real person that deserves the right to work in a bank and live and breath in this countory, unlinke say the staff in the big banks like LLoyds, HSBC natwest est, that after weighting 40+ minutes to be served by them and are completlly useless and unhelpfull and dont carre either and need replacing by AI and are very swiftly been taken out of service. I like the idea of a local building socity where you can become on first name terms with the staff in there. I like small businessesEmmia said:

You could send them a postal order (post office) or a banks draft, if you know what one of those are
But a debit card. If you could maybe get a travel money card and top it up say at a shop like a pay pointHuman Rights Act 1998, Article 10"Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. I'm surprised you haven't gone 100% "cash only" and keep your savings under the mattress.GringoGoesToVagas said:
