Debit carded wanted for new (savings) bank account (building society)

plant to open a bank account with a building society. However they dont offer a debit cards and the only way to take money out of the account is to visit them in the branch as they give you a pass book to do this
The account is called a "Manchester easy access saver" with the option of a "Nominated bank account"
Can I get a debit/ visa card from somewhere that I can link to that account so I can transfer the money from the account to that card and make cash withdrawals and online payment with with the card?
Thanks

I've not got any experience with Manchester but most transfers are instantaneous.0 -
If they only allow passbook withdrawals then I think you're out of luck.1

1. If they allowed you to withdraw money only using a passbook, why the option of a "Nominated bank account"?
2. Just like your bank account to it.
3. If in any doubt, just ring them up directly and ask.1 -
Looking online that account pays a poor 2% - any particular reason you have your savings with them when there are far better options?1

How's the plan to have nothing to do with the banking system coming along?

As far as I know, debit cards only come with current accounts. What I got from your initial post was that you wanted debit card not attached to an account. At least that is how it came across to me.If you can live with a cash card, then the post office has a savings account with a cash card. However if you want to pay for things with your card, then you will need a current account and its associated debit card.Should you go down the Post Office route, I don't know if you can transfer money from the Manchester BS to the PO. But then you could keep your savings in the Post Office saver account and use its cash card.1

ThanksIt sounds like this account you want to open is very limited. You don't even get a cash card for ATM withdrawals. Presumably you can't do direct debits or standing orders either. It sounds like a savings account...and indeed that's what it's called. If you want an account that operates like a current account, why not open one of these? I currently use Kroo and I think I earn more interest than your savings account would pay.0 -
