Tesco Mobile pay-as-you-go customer? Be prepared: it may push you to buy a bundle

Thank you for that advice. I'm going to wait until Tesco text me again to tell me they've switched me to the £2.50 monthly bundle and I have the free month they're offering, then I'll decide whether to stick or switch. Hopefully, I'll then be able to get through on the 4488 number.MindEcho said:Yes, the "lite" tariff is over in that the costs will no longer be cheap. You can still keep credit on your phone indefinitely though as long as you make a chargeable action every 6 months to keep it active.
If you have a 2G SIM you can't be switched to Essentials and will be "contacted in due course". However, it sounds like you've been given notice of switching and advised about the £2.50 bundle, in which case the 4488 should work, unless it's a number for Essentials and your number isn't recognised because you're not yet on that tariff..
Your best way of getting any sort of information from Tesco is by making a complaint. Cunningly they seem to have hidden PAYG complaint page on their website, but happily still exists.

Nothing is for ever I suppose, but I'm still a bit miffed they've done this.
Thanks again.0 -
I haven’t had any message from Tesco about the change but when I tried to check my balance today *#10# didn’t work. Rang 4488 and go my PAYG balance but it then went on to say I had 100 mins / 100 text messages and 100 Mb data and was I sure I wanted to cancel my bundle on 15 Nov.
so much for being contacted!0 -
Nice surprise this morning. Got a £40 reward from NatWest, for switching to Sky Mobile and paying by direct debit. Didn't even realise it was a thing - didn't see it on MSE. That will pay my new £1 per month plan for nearly 4 years!RL11 said:

Do you have an RBS account? You may be able to double up. I've never tried it on Sky mobile but have been doing it for years with my Sky TV.RL11 said:

It seems that Tesco want you to run out of Top up and then charge you at standard rate. This is a sly money making ploy and nothing to do with limited functionality of the Essentials Bundle.

When my 4g Sim arrives will it be the same phone number as now?0

Well that 1GB £1p.m deal might have been there a month ago but it's not there now - unless it's for existing Sky customers only!RL11 said:0 -
Just looked it is £5 which seems it could be reasonable.Phones4Chris said:

What caught my eye was it said unused data rolls over.0 -
The £1 Sky deal was withdrawn.
I'm sticking with PAYG unless I find a low price non Vodafone SIM deal, Tesco Mobile is my spare phone so it doesn't make sense to pay £5pm+ because that's what I pay for my main handset on Lebara.
