    Hi,
Thinking of going on a Haven Park holiday with The Sun holidays.
Parks I am thinking of are, Presthaven Sands, Marton Mere or Hafan y Mor. Also might try the HB at Hafan y Mor.
Anyone been to these parks, and could give me some advice. Might even book direct and go early in year, and save tokens till late.

Me and my family stayed at Hafan Y Mor last summer. It was a long drive as we are in South Wales but very beautiful scenery on the journey. The park is clean and quiet. The lake is beautiful. We spent ages watching baby ducklings following their Mum.

We went self catering, we arrived late in the night, about 10:30pm and were given the wrong key so were delayed getting in to our accomodation but don't let that put you off cos it was sorted out quickly and efficiently. The people opposite us were leaving early and gave us their vouchers for their breakfasts on the last morning and we had a fantastic cooked breakfast so can recommend the food too.

Oh and the swimming pool got the thumbs up from my kids..... hours of fun....

    Hi,
We went to Marton Mere last June, just before the floods came. It's great as a base for 'doing' Blackpool, but is also a self-contained site, with everything you could want. We had a great caravan, nice and clean, with tons of room and even an en suite toilet. The caravan had a few things missing from the kitchen equipment but after telling Reception they were delivered in no time at all. The site is next to a large lake, great for bird watching, with a couple of hides on the edge of the campsite.

We always take our own sleeping bags and pillows, to make sure we don't end up with 'suspect' bedding, which saves a bit of money, but we always get the entertainment passes. Who cares if the nightly entertainment is a bit naff - it's a cheap holiday for goodness sake. We've been on these hols for several years now and have only had one bad experience, with a dirty caravan, but then we are hardy campers and can put up with most things!

One more to recommend for Southeners is Pontins at Brean Sands. Been there several times and have never been disappointed. Entertainment is a cut above the rest as well.

I've just booked a half board holiday to Hafan Y Mor for 17th March for 4 nights half board and it came to just over £100 - thats for 4 people.
So just over £25 pp and thats going direct thru Haven.

How much do the Sun charge for half board? Just wondering if ive missed out on a bargain lol!
  • Thanks for the replies, any more would be welcome :)
It's for me and the other half, no kids. Looking like we will take a trip in mid March, but will book direct as there are 50% discounts for time (think will make it a week).
Going to use the tokens for later on in year.
The cost of the holidays is roughly the same, even the HB option. You get the food, but the room is smaller & no cooking in rooms.
What I have read is get an upgrade from the basic rooms, as pets stay there and can smell.
I want to pick Hafan y Mor, but unlike the other two it doesn't have a sauna, and want to go to a place with one.

    Gemma,

With the discount you got, don't think it would have been cheaper with the Sun.
Hope you used Quidco when booking your holiday.

Well done, leave the Sun £9.50 per person holidays for the rest of us. :D

The Hafan Y Mor supplement for half-board is £6 pppd.

Has anyone any experience of any of the Ilfracombe or Combe Martin parks ?

    :)

Been to both (I think) but about ten years ago.

The Ilfracombe one is basically three parks all next to each other. You could be allocated accomodation in any of these. Two are very quiet (Accomodation only parks) and one is more lively (Accomodation+main facilities). You can use the facilities of the main park wherever you are staying and it takes a 5 minutes walk to get to the facilities wherever you are located . All accomodation is in chalets and a large converted house. Bar is huge, entertainment is, well, acceptable. Parks are at the top of a steep hill above the town so a car is a must!

The Combe Martin park is centred around an old victorian house. Most of the accomodation is in static caravans although there are some chalets, an old cottage and also accomodation in the main manor house.

All parks had very friendly and helpful staff when I visited. Accomodation wasn't perfect but acceptable when I went.

All are part of John Fowler holidays: http://www.johnfowlerholidays.com/

See: Ilfracombe, Devon Coast, Golden coast and Combe Martin parks.

Compare the prices on the website with those of the Sun offer before booking as they have sometimes been cheaper in previous years..
