Hey
Kewl down you guys i mentioned this for discussion and debate! Some of you have taken it very personal its a community and without debate, some of you would still be sending messages by carrier pigeon.
Bi-planes fly but the dont fix what's not broke mentality would be no good if you wanted to fly to spain with your familly on a bi-plane.
So please look outside the box and let your mind wander I know some of you feel like your empire might crumble. But debate and trying new things is why technology moved forward so quick and Martin has the oppurtunity to spread the word and help so many people.I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
Thorr I think the idea of live help is good and perhaps a way forward, with a board being spotlighted maybe once a week for a question and answer session but as Rex says all this is time, money and people.
I enjoy reading the live chats after the event on the Channel 4 website but trying to actually join in at the time is a nightmare.0 -

Why do you feel anyone should 'kewl down'? You wanted discussion and debate...surely that is what is happening? The fact that I disagree with your idea doesn't detract from the discussion/debate.
As for 'looking outside the box' and 'crumbling empires'.......this site has changed a great deal over the last couple of years. and in my opinion it has gone from strength to strength. I am certainly not against change.
However, we shouldn't feel obliged to embrace every new idea that comes along. Your suggestion is an interesting one. Personally I think it would be costly to moderate and therefore unworkable.
I reiterate, mse is doing fine just now, so why change it?

Our empire couldn't crumble because the MSE foundations are way too strong.
And I think the word's being spread pretty well as it is (47,641 members)
As Pink said "If it isn't broke don't fix it"0 -
It's a nice idea but it has a few problems
i. It would need rigid moderation - something that takes huge resource
ii. Even with moderation its easy to abuse in the short term and that happens
iii. One of the advantages of the forum, is it acts as a permanent record so others can search and access the information - so it becomes a store of value, rather than an instantaneous snap shot.
I have thought of doing some Live Chats hosted with me - for an hour or two - but then i decided against due to my RSI

I think too much emphasis is being given to the "function" of a chat room, consideration should be given to how it will benefit MSE in it's simpliest form. I would suggest that IF a chat was introduced it would be to compliment the MSA for example. There's a great deal of chatter in MSA that doesn't really need to be saved as it is currently on the forums, this would help to free up resources. Some, but not all discussions might work better in a chat room & as previously mentioned quizzes would be another great addition.
This is a great piece of "Type/Chat" software and has the benefit of being hosted so it truely would "potentially" free up resources.
http://www.chat-forum.co.uk
It has a whole host of admin / user features whilst remaining simple to use & even has built in quiz facilities.
Having the addition of a chatroom would be a BIG/BOLD step and I would be more than happy to help out, in many respects it is far easier to moderate a chatroom than it is forums. Martin has a great team here & im sure together we could make it happen.0 -
I think the forum as is - is tremendous. I have asked questions in the past and even given the time difference someone has come back with a helpful answer. I can research certain areas that I need to know without asking questions too. It's all there. A lot of chat rooms are rubbishy drivel. If your into that sort of thing I'm sure there's one to your liking.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0

I alternatively love the frenetic fast paced aspect..............I don't do slow too well!
Personally I think and advice chat room with Martin, say twice a month, would be a good idea. A bit like a drop-in money clinic! If the RSI is playing you up Martin, you can dictate the replies to me and I'll type them out for you!!!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts.
