Using Santander App for Cahoot only (Android)

Good morning,
So, I've just discovered through here you can use the Santander App to log in with your Cahoot details, even if your don't have a Santander account...
I already set up a nominated bank account for transfers (back to one of my other bank accounts)
However, I just tried to do a test £1 payment transfer out into my nominated account & got all the way through getting the OTP to my mobile but when submitting this on the Santander app it just says "something went wrong & to try again"
I've tried a few times but keep getting the same message.
Do I still need to do the transfers through the Cahoot website, rather than the Santander app?
Seems a bit silly if so.

I don't have the answer to your question I'm afraid.SickGroove said:Good morning,

However I'm wondering where you found the info about setting up the Santander app for Cahoot?
I used to have an account with Santander, now switched out but I still have the app on my phone. I now have a savings account with Cahoot but not showing on the Santander app at, just shows I have no accounts. Very surprised that Cahoot doesn't have an app, but in the absence of one you would think Santander would work with it.0 -
I'm not surprised they won't - Cahoot now seems to be a secondary brand that they use when they want to bring in new retail funds without cannibalising their main brand too much. Lloyds did the same with MBNA savings and Natwest with Ulster Bank.1

I think you just need to uninstall the Santander app from your phone, reinstall it & pop in your Cahoot details when logging back in.Lens said:

Works a treat, except I can't seem to withdraw into my nominated account directly from the Santander app, I still have to do that through the Cahoot website which is a bit frustrating.

Set your payee details up in online banking.SickGroove said:Good morning,

You can then withdraw using the app. The app does not appear to let you add new payees, is what I discovered, however, will allow payments to existing ones.1 -
Already did that through the Cahoot website & the selected payee ie me is also showing within the Santander app. Every time I try to transfer a test £1 through the Santander app it gets to the end but when I put my OTP received on my mobile, it keeps saying "something went wrong - there was a problem with your request - for security reasons you will need to try again"wiseonesomeofthetime said:

I've read somewhere about open banking authorisation needed before I can transfer out through the Santander app, but no idea how too do this or if it's needed.

You can view Cahoot accounts in the Santander app, and transfer between Cahoot accounts there but you cannot transfer funds out of Cahoot elsewhere, even if payees are set up.2

Set up now and all working. Perhaps Cahoot could publish this information for the benefit of customers!0 -
I seem to read somewhere that you need to change reference every time you make a withdraw to an existing payee you set up from web. It worked for me once. I haven't tried since.SickGroove said:

I just did two £1 test payments...
First one changed reference from TRANSFER to Transfer 1 & it went through to my nominated account which I'd previously set up through the Cahoot website...
Tried again, keeping the same reference Transfer 1, but it failed...
Tried again, changed reference to Transfer 2 & went through again...
So as you say, just change the reference every time you want to transfer out to your nominated account...
Thank you for this 👍3 -
I had the same, had to dig around to find I could use Santander for Cahoot. I had previously had a Santander account, now closed, so was still registered for the app. I had to uninstall and reinstall. I only have savings account with Cahoot so was expecting I'd have to have a Cahoot current account to use the app, but no, it works with only savings accounts. Here is a step by step of how to set it up.Steps to register once you've downloaded the app to your phone:1. 'Log on'.2. T's & C's - 'Accept'.3. Enter your Personal ID - this is your Cahoot User Name number (should be 10 digits) - 'Continue'.4. Confirm details - 'Continue'.5. Enter your Security Number - this is your 5 digit number you use to log in to online banking - 'Continue'.6. One Time Passcode is sent to your email/phone - enter the number and press 'Confirm'.7. Email sent to your email with Unique email reference - 6 letters - should match the reference on your app screen.8. 'Open email in email app', if it matches click on the button 'Log on to Mobile Banking'.9. Cookies - 'Reject' or 'Accept'.10. Hello and Welcome to Santander - press 'Get Started'.11. Log in with Biometrics - accept or deline - 'Continue'.12. Instant notifications - 'Get Instant Notifications' / 'Maybe later'.13. Choose your wallpaper - 'Save Selection'.14. Start using app.Hope this is helpful 🙏😊7
