  • Well after me and Mr Sparkle managed to spend £300 on a tesco delivery in December plus do another tesco shop for £200 plus still spend £250 on random mini shops and £100 on take aways we have had something of a lightbulb moment.

It is totally ridiculous that we spent £850 in one month! there is only me him and an admittedly fat cat. That dd include cleaning stuff and toiletries but still.

We have realised it's mainly due to really really bad planning and about 75% if not more of the food gets thrown out as we haven't used it before the use by date. We even threw out a whole chicken as we defrosted it but then decided we fancied pizza so phoned for take away instead, that is shameful.

So we have been through the freezer and cupboards and written a meal plan for January. this week is:

    Tuesday: HM steak pie
    Wednesday: Chicken and rice
    Thursday: Salmon and chips
Friday: Steak in a peppercorn sauce
    Saturday: Tuna steaks
    Sunday Lasagne
    Monday: Steak something

Need to buy lunch bits, fruit and veg and that should be it for this week.

We aso stopped smoking and have worked out that if we put the money from that plus the money we are saving from meal planning aside we can pay off the mortgage in 10 years instead of 30, that's a pretty good incentive!
