Speed limiters on cars

The honda speed recognition is terrible! Our HR-V keeps bleeping as it thinks we are exceeding the limit. We are now so used to it going off in error we have found ourselves ignoring it when it would really help.
When leaving a supermarket car park the car thinks we are in a 10mph area for nearly a mile! plus it sees a sign on a lorry and thinks that is the road limit.0 -
We used to drive to Goole via the M62 once a month. On the way back my sat nav kepts telling me I was in a 50mph zone for several miles - I also went through a 20mph zone for a long time that the sat nav said 30mphThe sat nav despite being updated persisted in giving wrong info.As someone has said looking out of the window works as well0

My car does have a speed limiter, not one of these new fancy things, it's part the cruise control functionability. Don't use either.I tend to us my eyes, observation, adjustable right foot and common sense.1

It's amazing how many people using common sense complain when they get caught out driving "slightly" too fast.

I use the adaptive cruise control when driving in the numerous 50mph roadwork sections on motorways.
Feet off the pedals, just sit back and steer.1 -
A friend was pulled over by the police for going the wrong way in a one-way street. The street was only made one-way 18 months ago, there are ample signs. If only modern cars could stop you committing offences.I do believe my friend has eyesight issues; he has cataracts, but not bad enough for an operation. He said his eyesight is good and has been tested, not sure I believe him.0

Well they're obviously lacking common sense.0 -
I have an older car so only have a manual speed limiter, but I use it all the time when entering/crossing the city. It's far easier to set it to 30 and then you can concentrate more on your surroundings rather than keep checking the speedometer. In many places there are average speed cameras so it is especially handy then.In terms of speed limits and enforcement - I think it is happening the wrong way around. By now they should have developed some sort of smart device fitted to all new cars, that receives a signal and activates the cars speed limiter. You could then use the current infrastructure (lamp posts, average speed cameras etc) to transmit this signal from anywhere via blutooth or whatever. In essence, they make the laws so they should be forcing cars to drive at a legal speed if the technology exists. Rather than relying on manufacturers to try and do a workaround. It is far better to physically prevent a car from speeding than it is to simply fine the driver after the event0

Have you even considered all the parts of the country that barely have any mobile signal?
245,700 miles of road.
2,300 miles of motorway.
29,600 miles of A-road.
18,800 miles of B-road.
195,000 miles of C- and unclassified road.

And, of course, this couldn't be a UK-only requirement. You'd need to work together with the other UNECE countries to set the standards and implement it.0
