All these driver aids are fitted for no other reason than as a test bed for when driverless cars are introduced and become the mainstream, mind you, the speed sign recognition needs a lot of work..
There might be good reasons for that.
The systems work on sign recognition and GPS data and speed limits can get changed like the blanket 20 mph or temporarily in the case of road works.

It's not so much the system in the car that is the only issue. Updating the GPS database is another.
Plus GPS data can get confused with over passes where it might pick up the road speed above/below.

Of course no system is infallible, but it's only an aid to help not an all governing system (not yet anyway).

I wish my car would speak in it's nice lady satnav voice instead of binging, and displaying a tiny message on the dash that I can't read.

In The Olden Days I had an MG Montego that used to speak the warnings "A door is ajar, check vehicle map" IIRC, and "All monitored systems are functioning correctly" (possibly distorted by time) when I turned it on.

I 'd be happy to drive along with the occasional "collision imminent! change direction" "Adaptive cruise control disengaged". "70mph speed limit exceeded" "traction control fault- system disengaged" etc.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

You just want to flirt with her on your way to the pearl of Prestatyn, don't you.

    Like Dave you mean? ;)

In my head I am a Top gun pilot "Stall imminent, pull up, pull up"- if it is good enough for Our Brave Boys in frontline service, it is certainly good enough for me!

I think you're sadly mistaken if you think there's pearls in Prestatyn  ;)

I prefer what my Mercedes had which read the signs and displayed it on the dash but didnt adjust the speed for you.

I prefer to just look out of the window. Seems to have worked OK for me so far.

Did that happen often on a Montego?

I think I might start using my speed limiter.
I've managed 37 years without the use of a speed limiter but got home yesterday to find a NIP on the mat.
I got caught last week by a camera. 24mph in a 20 zone.

Seems they start enforcement at 10% + 2 mph not after.

I wasn't even meant to be there, I got nagged into going out of my way and picking something up for the Mrs on my way home from work so was on a road I don't normally use.
If I would have made the pick up from home, I wouldn't have taken the car but jumped on a Lime bike and got away with going much faster!

That has always been the guideline.
