Google maps white screen..?

My android phone maps app has suddenly started showing a map-less white screen when tapped. Has anyone else ever had this and, more to the point, how do I get maps back..?

Stop and restart the app.

Is that possible on Android? The app is permanently on/installed, no?

Why would I write it as a suggestion if it wasn't possible?

Settings -> Apps -> (Google) Maps -> Storage and Cache

(based on Android 12, but you should have something similar depending on what version Android you have)

Or "long press" on the icon, App Info.  From there you can Force Stop or access Storage and Cache.

You'd be amazed at what I have seen people suggest on here in all seriousness over the years...
