Google maps white screen..?

My android phone maps app has suddenly started showing a map-less white screen when tapped. Has anyone else ever had this and, more to the point, how do I get maps back..?

Stop and restart the app.Clear cache / storage2

Why would I write it as a suggestion if it wasn't possible?
Settings -> Apps -> (Google) Maps -> Storage and Cache(based on Android 12, but you should have something similar depending on what version Android you have)2 -
Or "long press" on the icon, App Info.
