Yes, of course. But I had a rogue purchase under £100 where the credit card provider (Nationwide) refunded and investigated, I assume as goodwill rather than being legally obliged.BFBW said:
Section 75 of the UK's Consumer Credit Act provides powerful buyer protection, making your credit card provider jointly liable with the retailer for faulty goods, non-delivery, or misrepresentation, covering purchases between £100 and £30,000...aroominyork said:If you paid by credit card you should be protected.1 -
Interesting information, thank you for the extra research/tips guys. I was going to use my credit card but the dilemma was, give my card details to an unknown company, or use the pay by App option which worked without sharing any account details (as far as I'm aware!). I agree, it's a strange scam, but I do have MS 365 now which is unexpected. Yesterday after my final complaint email I was given a product key and details of a VPN account to use to redeem it, and was told to connect to a Hong Kong server 🤣 It didn't work, said someone else had registered with the key. So I emailed the 'company ' again. They then provided another key, this time it worked. But if I renew in a year's time it will have to be in Hong Kong dollars from what I see in the subscription area. So I'll have to cross that bridge next year. So what a strange company, can't see how they expect to continue like that. It's been a long time since I've dealt with a company as strange as this, one positive is it has got rid of any complacency I had. I'll now be very careful when thinking I've got a good price for something. Hopefully this weird little story helps someone else out.1

Glad it's sorted out. But there's no bridge to cross - make sure they do not have auto-renewal authority and get them to confirm that in writing. Then find a safe company next year.
PS Can the App option put a block on them so they cannot debit you again next year? I'm not clear exactly what an App option means.

The pay with banking app option opened up my chosen banking app, and it asked if I want to authorise payment, so they can't automatically initiate a payment themselves next year luckily. Also, when I entered the product key on the Microsoft website I was offered 3 months extra free if I entered card details to enable auto-renewal, but I declined that.1

FWIW, PayPal has a feature where you can easily turn off any "auto renew".1

If a PayPal payment debits your credit card, are you covered by section 75 through your credit card provider?Frozen_up_north said:FWIW, PayPal has a feature where you can easily turn off any "auto renew".0 -
Possibly. It's complicated, seearoominyork said:
