One more NSD on Tuesday and only a grocery top up yesterday.  I didn't have the funds to go out last night so I stayed home. Feeling a bit low about it though.

I have identified a new category I would like on YNAB and am mulling it over rsther than robbing lots of other pots now on a whim.

I ended up thinking the £30 was £40 and then bizarrely another future booking for ten pounds cancelled too. Very unusual but budget helpful.

Approaching the end of August so it seems like a good review point.

    Goals for August
    Check YNAB before spending
No robbing Peter to pay Paul
No shuffling to hide my sins.
    Slow down, think, plan ahead
Take sandwich, snacks water etc to stop the risk of spending
    Use the library for books
Keep the faith this month. If I can leave the categories intact September will have more wriggle room.

I have checked YNAB before spending. I am beginning to understand the term YNAB broke.
No robbing Peter to pay Paul - Still did it but less.
I did some mid-month shuffling but then thought better of it so used YNAB's recent moves and the Undo feature to go back to the start of the month.
I have slowed down a little and planned a little more.
I have often taken water, snacks and food with me and eaten them too! I have not eaten a lot of bacon rolls by taking protein bars and having breakfast first - who knew!
I have not been to the library. The family crisis meant lots of stress so my energy was low. Can do better.

    I have 4 overspent categories.
Total overspent categories £194.30. A bit worse than July.
    1. My spending money 10 budget spent £120.51 overspend £110.51
    2. Festival 0 budgetted. Spent £66.80 overspend £66.80 Now a new YNAB category for next year!
    3. Home maintenance £105 budgetted (chimney sweep) Spent £117.99 overspend £12.99 on shower curtain. Spend heavily influenced by OH. If it was just me I might have toughed it out until 1/9 Solution - adjust down by £12.99 in September
    4. Entertainment subscriptions Budget £8.99 Spent £12.99 Overspend £4. This was one of the things that started my mid month fiddling as it seemed like a small, sensible adjustment. Our self catering holiday in July tempted me into n3tflix which was totally worth it. Then we wanted a second month. I'd half budgeted it but the wrong amount ( probably trying to avoid £6 for My Spending Money. )

I actually budget Netflix as a category in the plan on YNAB.  I know it's only £5.99 but better having it budgeted than having to take the money from another category.

Ran out of time on the review yesterday.

Unexpected money in this month: £79.39
    £40 refunds
£39.39 Sales on Vinted and Ebay

I will use that today to wipe out two of my red categories. I am really pleased I sold my first things on Vinted this month thanks to Pip and the Summertime thread.

I will have a think about whether to ask my father to repay the groceries money and other costs I spent. It feels churlish. He was in crisis mode because of my sister and needed help. It was a one-off I hope. I will add up what they cost out of interest though.

I will look at September's budget today then no fiddling with categories!

I added up the unexpected spending for my family on groceries, train fares and car parking was £104. I am going to chalk this to experience and try and keep my purse locked away more in September.

YNAB all ready for the shiny new month and I have a new resolution for the month. I have decided to fund a weekly hobby fully and kept my spending money low but I can freely move this money to boost my spending money if I decide to skip a week to save my pennies. Apart from that I will not rob Peter to pay Paul!

September is tight again due to my overspending but a couple of categories will be fine with lower funding levels from next month as I was funding them over less than a full 12 months. Onwards and upwards.

Wow, you've done so well! My YNAB is a reality check - I've just used about £150 from car insurance and road tax to top up my overspent categories  :s

Oh Loobidoo I totally understand! Good luck clawing it back. I'm giving up moving money until 29 or 30 September. I have to learn!

I posted two more Vinted items, jigsaws this time.

I took my father's car through a car wash and got a discount by finding out from the guy they do money off with the loyalty card. A letter on from AO... Budgetted money there and I am happy as no coffees, snacks, sandwiches, newspapers or anything. Just the planned spend. Woot :-)

Today was NSD2 and hopefully tomorrow will be NSD3. I plan to leave my purse at home tomorrow just in case I am tempted.
