Have found a way to save money on food! A drug driver hit 2 cars in our road and then slid back into ours today. We thought that we had got away with it as DH pushed the dent out. But something is rubbing on tyres so we need it seeing too. We are just hoping he has insurance!!! Same thing happened to us 4 years ago but it was much worse. We waited 4 months for all the parts to arrive in the UK and had to go without a car for the first 6 weeks!!!!  Anyhow this resulted in us not being able to get to shops. So I made chicken noodles for dinner and added egg fried rice as I didn't have enough noodles also we couldn't get milk It will be toast for breakfast in the Morning. I have enough food for tomorrow and we should have a hire car by 3 o clock  for at least a week ..saved us on outings with kids too so as long as we don't have to pay excess it's all good .

We did our first shop of August this morning which sounds more impressive than it actually is because we finished July with a visit to Lidl on 31st July.

MrBC was despatched to pick up our free items and got a 30 bag pack of crisps and a pack of lovely tomatoes.  He also suggested a tin of aubergines in tomato sauce from the Greek range,  as neither of us like aubergine it was quickly agreed that it didn't need to come home with us and languish in the cupboard for years.

so having swerved the aubergine we pretty much stuck to our list and have lots of lovely fresh fruit and veggies.  We also factored in a visit from a friend for the whole day - brunch, lunch and dinner and also a picnic lunch for us and 2 grandkids next week.

    We spent £54.  £196 remaining.

Popped into Aldi yesterday, I've just downloaded their app so I gave it a go. So far so good.

Spent £53.96 on milk, cream, butter, cereal, fresh apricots, plums, conference pears, grapes, pork belly slices, dog treats, and salad ingredients. Have got £72.12 to last me out of £175 budget this month. I don't expect to go shopping again until next Friday 15th August. It's going to be tight, but there's plenty in the freezer. My aim is to get back to averaging £350 per month over the year.

Running out of cat litter so a Morries shop is imminent. I shall also get bowl fruit, carrots, onions, maybe a yellow pepper, crisp lettuce (to mix with the homegrown cos and lambs lettuce) and eggs but hopefully, nothing else. Milk was delivered this morning so all of that can wait until Monday. I pulled a couple of good sized beetroot from the community garden and cooked them to go with a couple of much smaller beets from our patch. Homegrown bean, courgettes and raspberries are keeping us going
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here

This week's combined shop-&-market raid came to £84.53; a few things will need topping up early next week but not much - yogurt, sliced bread & bananas spring to mind. A small Family Contingency spend (a sudden lunchtime visit from DD1 & fiancé) today of £11.08 will be added towards the end of the month if I think I'm doing ok! (Actually that does feel like cheating! But how else can I account for my offsprings' sudden urges to return to the nest - at mealtimes?!)
