Morning all,
I just wanted to thank @Naturelover22 and @t14cy_t for the Olio tip. I downloaded the app to see what was available in my area. l was shocked by how many FWH's there are within a 10-15 walk from my house, there is also high demand. I hesitated to request at first but then over the weekend collected...
Warburtons rolls
Hovis seed sensations bread (my fav 😊)
Walls Jumbo sausage roll
Salad
Sandwich Fillers
12 Beef grill steaks
Various sandwiches and wraps
Fresh Croissants from the Bakery
The croissants were warmed in the oven yesterday for breakfast
All the sandwiches and salad were eaten yesterday for lunch, my youngest was particular happy with her bacon sandwich, l added a bit of cheese and put it in the toastie maker. My oldest had a chicken tikka gym kitchen wrap she regular spends £3 on for lunches.
The bread, sausage roll, and grill steaks are in the freezer.
I did miss out on a load of meat items because l had to collect between before midnight on Saturday (use by date policy) and it was after 11pm when they were listed. Mr CK was in bed and l didn't want to go alone. When l told him about it he said l should have woken him up 😂. He was sceptical at first but is now definitely on board.
I am staying away from the shops until at least Wednesday but will keep an eye on Olio.

August already! The days are really flying by.
I spent what felt like a whopping £37.14 today in Tesco, stocking up on pet food, milk, butter, cheese and some very indulgent treats for me (cashew nuts, prawn crackers, mini Melton Mowbray pork pies, chocolate) but if (fingers crossed) the community fridges are as well stocked in the coming weeks as they usually are then there’s probably very little else I will need to buy.August total so far £37.14/£1506 -
600/463 i was over charged by aldi for croissants but rather than them messing about with my bank card i picked up the second packet which i had been charged for. This was a lot easier than waiting for a gap at the till for them to process refund and the supermarket till operator said that was fine. Last week i house sat for sister and I made a big saucepan of lentil soup with tomato paste 2 stock cubes garlic chilies onion and carrot this lasted 4 days and sister enjoyed leftovers. She said it was restaurant quality. I might have to start making bigger batches of food at home to make life easier.21k savings no debt7

Eeek - another £101.12 gone today & it's only the 5th! But I've done the non-perishables for the month, plus a few Oriental delicacies from the local Chinese supermarket. So we shouldn't run out of flour, sugar, tinned beans, chickpeas, sweetcorn or fish, coffee, passata, tomato puree, Marmite , butter or halloumi in August. We've had DD1 staying for a couple of days - some wedding ideas have been mooted - which always results in the butter & chocolate supplies getting a hammering, plus an allotment friend gave me 4 large courgettes, so I had to make Steff Hafferty's Double Choc Zucchini muffins, of course! The rest are in the dehydrator. She & her fiancé are back again next weekend but apart from that, no guests are expected until mid-September now.
Which is kind of lucky, as there's next to no produce from the allotment just now; we've had almost no rain since April & my little plot is dessicating rapidly as there's no depth of soil & not enough stored water; I put an IBC tank in in late April but it's never been more than 1/3 full. I'm working on both of those problems for the long term but can only really pray for some more rain, for now! The one crop that's loving life just now is tomatoes, both indoor and out, and I'm bringing home handsful every day. Of course, when we do get rain, we'll probably get blight too! Never mind, the hedgerows are full of blackberries & cherry plums; there will at least be chutney!Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7 -
