My latest experience with Tiscali has been the levy of a charge to download Norton Software even though I have neither requested it nor downloaded it as I use AVG for anti-virus for free.Beware and read your bills with care.0

Do not move to Tiscali. I applied for B/B & talk option In January, B/B was connected a month later, Talk has still not been connected and my phone calls, Emails and registered letters have not been replied to. Stay where you are, I wish I had, Tiscali are DREADFUL in every department. dippy0710

I phoned Tiscali yesterday with a view to changing line rental from BT to Tiscali. I already have Broadband and all day calls with them for £14.99 which is pretty cheap. After the man on the other end of the phone asked me a lot of security questions, he still didn't seem to know what package I was on and then said to change to Tiscali line rental would cost me £30 as they do all the work in contacting BT. I said I'd think about it. After reading all the posts I'm wondering whether it's worth it. I wonder if anyone can advise me. Also, I use 18185 for sending lots of text messages and would I still be able to do that if with Tiscali landline.Mmm, I do tend to make my OWN choices, still very pleased with MY choice!0 -
They want to charge you £30 for taking over your line rental from BT? That'd decide me.After the man on the other end of the phone asked me a lot of security questions, he still didn't seem to know what package I was on and then said to change to Tiscali line rental would cost me £30 as they do all the work in contacting BT.
I assume you send your text messages from your computer via 18185 (1p each, I do the same). If so, you could continue to do so but, if they wanted to, Tislcali could bar access to the 18185 prefix (for cheap calls to mobiles, abroad etc).
Of course, you'd then not be able to dial 1280 prefix to hop back onto BT for calls for which BT is cheaper.
Are you aware of Tiscali's 1 May 2008 price increases?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Sarah, did you have to pay BT for any outstanding time on your contract with them?
No we didn't, probably because we had been with them for 13 years, however we did get a refund of some line rental.
We occasionally get a letter from BT asking if we would like to go back to them as the deals with Virgin:rolleyes: aren't as good? We are still with tiscali, and are still very happy with the service.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply! unfortunately we've only just entered into a 12 month contract for BT's line rental so I think we'd have to pay £70 get-out charge
Trying to weigh up whether that still makes Tiscali the best value! 0
