I never tried pre-folds because I was aware there was a danger with occassional leaks.
DS went into tots bots at 6 weeks and the elasticated leg contained the poo and it never reached the wraps (motherease wraps by the way)
Sunshine should get the worst of the staining out of the wrap.0 -
Thanks everyone, the suggestions have been really helpful. I might try the fleece liner option.
And after me saying yesterday that I'll not get to hang anything on the line for months, what do you know, today is the most gorgeous days and my nappies and wraps are blowing away on the line in the sunshine. Very satisfying sight !!0 -
I used terry nappies with my son for a bit and I bought one on those old fashioned pairs of wooden tongs, to rinse them down the loo.0

I use terry squares for mine - onto their third usage in my house [plus some before they got to me lol]
I love them - but i use the motherease wraps over them - i figure that i save on the nappies so splash out on the covers - plus i get most of the money back on ebay for them when i have finished with them.
my youngest is 21 weeks now and still poos her own bodyweight out at least twice a day..... is normal tho:rotfl:five children? I must be mad........ :rotfl:

Hi ThriftyLady,
We use Cotton Bottoms Nappies for our daughter and have done since she was born (shes now 18mths), we stopped using the paper liners for many reasons but have found that fleece liners work really well, we also use fleece wipes instead of the chemical soaked shop bought ones and have saved a fortune over the time we have been using them,
my wife now sells the liners and wipes, if it would help I could perhaps send you a couple to try out?, I hope that its ok to post this on here (am not trying to advertise or anything, I just thought you might like to see how they work for you before having to buy any), anyway if you would like me to arrange this pm me
thanks

i cut up an old fleece blanket to make liners - never ever use the paper ones.....
and i use flannels as wipes - and boosters etc - saves a fortune and does the job better than the commercial wipes:rotfl:five children? I must be mad........ :rotfl:

One good tip I had for getting persistent stains out of nappies is to soak them in a bucket of water with a couple of milton tablets in them - if you use a chemical steriliser you could use your leftover sterilising water.
It works surprisingly well, even on stains that no amount of washing in the machine/bleaching/stain-devil has managed to shift.0 -

Congrats on using cloth nappies! I've been using them for 10 months and never regretted it. And have saved a fortune. :T
I have to agree with a lot of what has been said. I think that the prefold nappies you have will be better once your baby starts doing more solid poos, less often. The shaped nappies tend to be better for newborn poos. I don't think liners make much difference when they are tiny either.
Are you breastfeeding? Breastfed babies tend to have runnier poos than bottlefed, but breastfed poos tend to smell better, apparently!!
My baby had poos that stained really badly, bright yellow! I tried soaking in all sorts of different concoctions and nothing helped. (I didn't use Napisan though because I was told that this can reduce the life of the nappy.) And you can't soak wraps because it reduces their waterproofness. Anyway I found that the very best thing for getting the stains out (including food stains when your baby is older) is sunshine. I know thats not much help to you as we are coming into autumn though!
Also once you have settled into the nappies I'd really recommend using fleece/terry wipes. Really easy and again saves a fortune.0
