How else would you clean nappies??
I buy napisan from the supermarket, but its really not neccessary, I only use it every couple of washes. If any of them are really messy I put them on a rinse before I do the main wash, but most of the mess gets caught in the degradable flushable liners that I use anyway. I just wash at 60.
Oh, and use vinegar instead of softener because softener akes them less absorbant.0 -

I used to wash nappies on a boil wash in my machine - never used Napisan or anything other than washing powder. They lasted four babies and have become decorating and cleaning cloths. My neighbour used Napisan and thought it cut their life expectancy.0

I have washed my nappies (cotton/bamboo/micro-terry) with non-bio, non-bio + napisan, eco balls, soap pods, bio, bio + soda crystals, generally no higher than 60 (often 40). WM smells fine and nappies lasting well. IMHO Eco balls are good if not too stained but I prefer bio (sometimes plus soda crystals) for more heavy stains. Sunshine is a great bleach!
I never use fab con as it decreases absorbancy.

I've got tots bots fluffles and I'm on my 4th baby. I found that if they were very dirty a quick cold wash got most of the pooh out then I washed them on a 60. Hang them on the airer overnight and they are dry by the morning.
No smelly machine here. You could always add a drop or two of tea tree essential oil.0 -
Hi there! I washed nappies in the washing machine with both of mine, with no problems :j
We have an existing thread on this subject, so I'll add this thread to keep ideas together.

i have used the ecover laundry bleach for bedding and been really impressed...it is made from plant derivatives so is very (entirely) natural and like all the ecover products does not stay in the fibres or causes irritation. i think my original post has been merged with this thread - which is absolutely fine as it was on topic - but i just wanted to explain as i think i come across as even more daft in the context of the thread!
anyway, i wanted to thank everyone who gave me such great advice on this topic and also to give a little pointer to anyone looking for a oxidisng product!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
