TBH, there is no mention in add about the area where the family were staying. So it would be realistic to think that it was a private area the family may use.
I would expect the family to live somewhere else! Yeah maybe if this was AirB&B but if booking a holiday cottage though that kind of site I would expect the owner to greet me with the keys (or leave them in a lock box) and then not be seen again.
I'm surprised the booking site is happy to keep the listing with that kind of set up. Reviews are interesting, also surprised no one else has mentioned it but maybe the family hasn't been in the garage that long?
The lower part of the Detached property is not mentioned at all within the description.
So to be fair, it is something that should have been a questioned asked at time of booking, will anyone be using that area, if OP wanted the building to themselves for the week.
Did Op raise this as a concern while they were there? If not, why not, as it then seems it can not have been that much of a issue in reality.
we complained straight away, the property was not as described and the company confirmed that the owner had not told them of the apartment, The contract is with the owner apparently

Well, the carefully worded description does refer to going downstairs to the ensuite bedroom on the ground floor. I took that ground floor room marked on picture 20 to be that bedroom and I think that photo together with the description is a little misleading.born_again said:

I agree, of course it should. If solitude is important to the guest they should look for descriptors such as 'exclusive use of', 'not overlooked', etc. and if they don't see them they should contact the host and ask directly before booking. I always correspond with the host before I book.
The OP doesn't say if they immediately contacted the host on arrival, as they should have done to mitigate their loss.
If I was the host and an angry guest had rung me and threatened to withhold 25% of the rent, my adult kids would have been given their marching orders and been out within the hour.0 -
Hardly unusual for a room or garage etc to be locked out of use (because the landlord uses it for storage etc) - I wouldn't assume it's actively occupied by somebody else or think it was my responsibility to pick up on it and query it.born_again said:
