Air India

Options
I have a flight booked from Oman with air India next month. Both aircrafts will be the 737's. Seeing how their Dreamliner crashed, I do not wish to fly with them. Perhaps it was either pilot error or lack of proper mainteanace.

The fare is £95 non-refundable. If I cancel, I get only £15 back.
Should I do a chargeback / cancel and go through my travel insurance or accept it as a loss and stick with the £15 refund?

I suggest you start by reading your travel insurance policy carefully.

Then, perhaps try telephoning Air India and see if they can offer you anything: perhaps they have code-share flights using 'planes operated by another airline.

    Chargeback would almost certainly fail.

If you decide not to travel for any reason, then yes this is all you'll be refunded. Your choice.

Mainline Air India do not have 737s in their fleet.

You cannot get use chargeback or insurance just because of a change of mind when the flight is still available.

Also, don't speculate as to the cause, wait for the investigation.

It's your choice not to travel.  You'll be held to the ticket Terms & Conditions, and if that only means a £15 refund then that's all you'll get.  There's no grounds for a chargeback.  Your travel insurance won't cover you for disclination.

It's very early days and the reasons for the Ahmedabad accident are not yet known.

Would you feel the same if a British Airways flight had crashed or is it the perception that Air India may not have maintained the plane to an acceptable standard.
I have recently done several flights in India using Air India's low cost fleet - all very satisfactory.

Chargeback will rightly be refused, your travel insurance will not cover diainclination to travel and £15 would be below the excess anyway.

You can choose not to get on the flight, but making the decision not to does not entitle you to a refund.

Every plane manufacturer has had crashes, nearly every model and variant has had crashes. If you are concerned about this based on a plane with a very good safety record overall you should pretty much never fly again.

The OP's said their flights are on the 737, which is not the type that crashed the other day.

If that's the case they are flying with low cost Air India Express on an aircraft type that as certainly had plenty of incidents since 1967 when the first model took to the skies.

Air India Express, along with many others, have managed to overrun the runway on landing with the 737-800.
