Memory Girl was thinking last night I usually make my own gardening gloves but they may come in handy for your building/renovation work???
I use any old jeans/heavy cotton trousers that are beyond doing anything else with :rotfl: Just draw round each hand adding a 1/4" seam and make wrist part approx 3" longer so they stay on without the need to be elasticated;)

Just found some sites on quillows...............not sure my material would be the right sort. it's a bit too thick I think for all the folding over.
Don;t have a sewing machine but have seen cushion covers done on makeover programmes where there's been very little sewing involved and the cushion cover is like an envelope..............anyone got any instructions for those ?

Sorry just read your post properly right handsewn version :)
measure your pillowform, if its 15" the fabric will need to be cut 16" x 40" if the form is 18" the fabric will need to be cut 19" x 50".
Fold over and hem just one of the short edges.Place fabric with right side facing up.
Fold the fabric into 3 (flap left*finished hem* over then right)and give it a wiggle until it measures 15" wide (or 18" depending on pillow)making sure the nicely finished seam is on the inside .Turn through and you're done

no, it isnt just you. I'm struggling to find time to do all things that I want to do and I'm at home all day! Decided today that I need to reduce/limit my internet time, I find it eats into my day most severely! :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Have a look at how a bought pillow case is made, that's just a larger version of an envelope cushion. Then when you have the right material adjust the folds so that the flap comes down to the middle of the cushion

I've made loads of cheap cushion covers this way, if you make them a bit larger than the cushion pad you can sew round the edge of the cover and make a half inch edge, you can add lace, broiderie anglais to this or a fancy frill or beads depending on what you're using the cushion for

    Thanks...............so obvious why didn;t I think of that...............lol
Seen that sort done with woolly jumpers as well. Bound to have some at this winter to chuck out that I didn't get round to wearing.

Now I just need to find a 'timetable' to work out some sort of routine for doing all these things...........lol

Wow MG I am so impressed with your organisation and determination, it puts me to shame!! I have been off work for 2 months with work related back and neck pain so have been unable to do a lot of phyiscal jobs. I had plans to do some sorting of paperwork but quickly got bored. I persude myself that reading a book is much more pleasurable. :o I know I will regret all my inactivity when I have to return to work.

I will follow your thread and hope that your good example gives me motivation. Keep up the good work.

    Love

    Mags
