APP Fraud Santander Edge credit card

Options
Just fyi, I was impacted by an APP fraud on my Santander Edge Credit card and they wouldn't pay out. They said I had made the payment so they could not do anything. I have repoted to action fraud (who just tell me to be more careful) and the Ombudsman who I'm unsure of yet, but I can post here if I get a positive response.

A good credit crad, paysout £15 a month, but now I've lost it all through this stupid scam.

My impression is I should be covered, see the Payment System Regulator website, but Santander have other ideas!!!

Has anyone else had similar experiences of being rebuked by banks?

Without details it's impossible for anyone here to know whether Santander have made an error or not, or to have any idea which way the FOS might decide. If you're not willing to provide those details then your thread would be better placed in Praise, Vent and Warnings.

    Not the OP's only problem!

I've suggested they check CRAs and CIFAS now.

    ...
If this was a card payment, I don't think that this is APP and is covered accordingly.

APP is for bank transfers and not card payments and certainly not credit cards

however, since it was ***credit*** I wonder if the OP has any other protections?

APP fraud does not cover credit cards.

So you are talking about a card payment.

Without any details no one can give any idea if a complaint will stand.

Well, theoretically it can be a money transfer from a CC account, i.e. not necessarily a credit card payment.

    ok, to give more details.

I was buying a service through a website. They asked me to pay with phone vouchers that I paid for and passed on to them. They redeemed the vouchers and never turned up.

Santander say they can do nothing as I approved the transaction.

I am not great with all the jargon regarding fraud, I thought APP was correct. However, I made the payments with a credit card so thought I would be protected somehow.

I guess Santander are correct, your actual purchase was the phone vouchers which you received without issue.

Whatever you did thereafter is nothing to do with any bank.

If anyone else asks you to pay with magic beans, Apple, Amazon or any other voucher or gift card, don't do it.

Have you made any complaint to the phone voucher company?

Did the "seller" ask you to buy mobile phone pre-pay vouchers then pass them on?  That would certainly sound alarm bells with me.

That's your red flag right there. That tells you it's time to stop, shut down your browser window and walk away.
Only scammers ask you to pay for products with phone vouchers or gift cards.

Yes, the CC transaction was for phone vouchers which the OP received. What the OP does with them after that is no concern of Santander's.
It's a bit like taking money out of an ATM and then being mugged. Your bank isn't responsible for your mugging.
