Beeping when over the speed limit (misidentification of speed limit).
Options
Our 11 year old car was finally going to cost more to get through the MOT than it is worth, so we've bitten the bullet and got a new one. As you can imagine, things have moved on rather a lot in 11 years, and we have quite a few new features that we're still getting used to.
One of them is that the car will beep if you go over the speed limit. Now, to be clear, I understand that speeding is an issue. However, the car misidentifies the speed limit sometimes. In particular, it does this on a road close to my home which is a 30 limit, but it thinks it's a 20 limit. So it beeps every time I use that road, which is just annoying.
We've found a way to change it, and set it to visual only, so a speed limit sign flashes on the dashboard. This is still useful, but much less annoying. However, we have to set this for each journey, and we can't seem to get it to be permanent. Does anyone know of a way to get the car to remember the setting?
It's a Toyota Corolla if that helps, but I think this 'feature' may be becoming more common on newer cars.
P.S. I realise this isn't strictly money saving, but it could become so if I end up getting so annoyed that I crash the car

I know what you mean we have a section of road near us where the start of the national speed limit signs are hidden by hedges both sides of the road so the car thinks we are in a 40 limit for the next 3 miles. It has been a legal requirement for new vehicles to be equipped with this for some while now. Although you can turn it off at the start of every journey you can’t permanently disable it. Every maker implements it differently. In my Skoda Elroq I have set one of the configurable buttons in the infotainment system to turn it off, although I often forget to do it. Both beeps and visual what are ate quite muted so it’s not too annoying when it happens but some cars make very loud bings and bongs and to turn it of you have to work though the menu system which is not easy while driving.1

It had to be fitted to all new cars from 2022, but could be turned off. Not any more.

Use the Waze phone app to display a map and speed limit on your car screen. Waze is free and they are quick to change their mapping when a speed limit is changed, you submit the details and they review it within a couple of weeks. The camera in my car sometimes picks up the wrong speed limit, a 30 limit sign on a bend that looks like the 20 limit has changed... Waze isn't fooled. Likewise Waze will warn you about speed cameras plus user entered potholes, roadworks, and temporary speed cameras.1

Part of it though is the distration level of this, where as it's all new I'm taking my eyes off the road to work out why it's beeping.... that's getting better as I get more used to it. I currently feel that it's trying to be helpful, which I understand, but by doing so, it isn't necessarily helping me and is actually causing a problem.
There are quite a few things on it which I think may cause issues if they are relied on too much. I'd like to think I'm a good driver, and it matters to me that I'm aware of things like speed limits, without needing the car to tell me - especially as it can get it wrong as I've seen. I want to be making my own decisions about the driving conditions and rules.
Though after saying that, I know that sometimes (hopefully rarely), I do get it wrong, which is why I find the visual with the speed limit to be a helpful feature, it's just the noise which I find annoying.2 -

Some make it a lot easier such as Renault & the 2 press perso button. other make it harder with setting being buried deep in the settings.Life in the slow lane0 -

I remember the days when electric windows were a bit of a novelty... the tech these days is amazing, and I know that connecting a phone to a car has been around for some time, but it's not something I've ever really bothered with before.1
