Thanks Honey-Bear. It's exhausting, mentally as much as anything, because it's so relentless and I feel as if I'm trying to live two lives, as well as do all the practical stuff, e.g. flying. Anyway, it is what it is, as they say. You sound very practical. Our dining table, which is very old (nealery 200 years) is in desperate need of restoration, including french polisghing of the top. I don't think I'm practical enough to do it myself though. I'm pleased your lunch went well. The M&S meringues are the best of the bought ones - they are fairly gooey inside but still not as nice as good home-made ones. I tried one of the nests I'd made and despite following Delia's recipe to the letter they were not properly cooked in the middle. I want them gooey but these were not even at that stage. I was going to throw the towel in and use some M&S ones but I don't like to be defeated so after supper and WUPA things and ironing the table cloth (a bit of a palaver) I made another batch. A would have said I was an idiot to make more but he was asleep so he won't know until tomorrow. I'll test one first and if they're stlill no good I'll just throw them away and not tell him.It was pretty late by the time I turned off the oven (gone 11.30) so I hope they're worth the effort. Delia says to cook them at 120 fan for 30 mins an then turn the oven off and leave them in until it cools. I had to guess how much more they needed so I left them in for an extra 15 mins but turned the oven down to 100. hopefully they will be right this time but if not I'll just have to use the M&S ones. At least they're quick to make.Other than that I went to ther shops for the Jersey Royals and a couple of other bits, cleaned the bathroom and washed and dried the towels and put out fresh ones. I did all the usual stuff as well of course. It's now 10 past 1 so I'd bnetter get to bed.6

I'm a bit lack lustre here. I dont remember it taking this long to get over the test 2 years ago.I popped in and out of the garden in between showers. I managed to wash out the birdbath, top up the apple tree bed, wash and dry 2 solar lights and took 2 tubs of lovely compost out of one of the wormeries. I've got it in a tub on the patio overnight, I've got to fish out the stragglers and put them back in the wormery tomorrow. Got more done than I thought I would.Did the usual first level kitchen DW and loaded the WM.Ran the vacuum over the hall, stairs and my room, then had a very satisfying half hour on the stairs, and got the paintwork and pictures wiped down. Definitely gets a lot done breaking down jobs this way.OH has a shelf over the stairs with toy model cars , so tomorrows job is to get him to pass them down (I'm too short), wipe the shelves so I can vacuum the dust traps cars. If nothing else its entertaining as he spends the whole time panicking about windscreen wipers going up the vacuum
- of course he wont clean them himself!

@Honey_Bear What breed is she? Its such a pleasant change now that so many places welcome a well behaved dog.We stayed near Skipton last year and all the cafes were really dog friendly, in fact Poppy ( collie) got a water bowl and biscuits before we got served.6

Morning. Wordle in four. Hope you're all ok today and that CoGs meringues have cooked ok.
Another job I did yesterday was shortening the light pull in our bathroom. Because of the layout of the room and me being quite short I was forever getting hit on the head by it. Happened to DD recently as well. Then yesterday, finally, the lightbulb moment so it is now just above head height for me.
I kind of have a plan today to do dailies, walk Poppet and cut the grass this morning before going out this afternoon. I also need to complete paperwork for the dog sitter ( Poppet was invited to the wedding but I don't think it will be much fun for her) and make a minor alteration to my wedding outfit. Whether this will all get done today remains to be seen.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.6 -
morning all
got to go into work for 10:30 to admit someone.
Did lots of laundry yesterday and got it dried, I’ve 2 more loads to go out today. Also cleaned my bedroom yesterday.
Found the receipt for the t shirt i’m taking back to M&S which I had put in an outer pocket of my bag and then couldn’t remember when I was there in the week!
Been feeling a bit down which is hardly surprising

Afternoon all,
Back from a couple of hours allotmenting (thank you, Round 👋). It was not particularly pleasant as the blustery wind has made another appearance here. We had friends over for an easy dinner last night. This morning I WULTD the glasses and a couple of big plates, and I have just run the vacuum cleaner over the kitchen and the dining room. This afternoon I have a few more plants to shove in the back garden, some seeds to scatter, then I might get an hour with the sewing machine to finish the top I have been trying to make out of scrap ends.
Need to meal plan for next week…5 -
Hi all
After a wonderful day out hiking yesterday followed by a brief meet up with my volunteering group today feels a bit flat. I am back at the paid stuff tomorrow after a week off and shock horror I am quite looking forward to it. If nothing else I think that I need routine and structure to my day.
We have found someone to let the dog out when DH starts his new job. She is an acquaintance of a neighbour who keeps horses nearby and although she has qualifications in animal care doesn't run a dog walking business as such. She has been to meet us and the dog and it seems like the perfect solution, although I did have a moment where I questioned the sanity of allowing a stranger access to our home when we are out. I suppose that a lot of people have cleaners or carers who are trusted whether they come from a reputable company or not.
I have put some veggie bolognese in the slow cooker, done a load of laundry and put pizza dough in the bread maker. It's windy, cool and showery so being outdoors isn't very appealing, although there is weeding to do.
Valli I spent ages looking for a receipt for some trousers that I wanted to return and after I had given up I realised that they had emailed me the receipt. I mustn't forget to take them back.
I need to make a meal plan for the week too. I have just realised it's 4pm, where did Sunday go?6 -
Job to carry over till tomorrow - alterations to wedding outfit.
Cutting grass will have to wait until at least Tuesday now as we've had heavy rain, and tomorrow DD is coming over for the day with her two.
See you all on the next thread.Spend less now, work less later.5 -
@Valli sorry you're feeling down - but not surprising, as you say. Hope you bounce back soon. Sending hugs.@Jazee I'm afraid the second batch was the same, even though they had 50% more time in the oven, albeit that the last 1/3 was at a slightly lower temperature. Delia has let me down here; Honey Bear, could I have your recipe please?@Spikeygran your post really made me laugh. The lunch went well and they both seemed to enjoy themseleves and W liked his presents. I tried to wash up as I went along, as far as I could and did a bit more after they'd gone I've done most of it now but there are the galsse and a vegetable dish still to do. I'm tired but don't want to leave them until morning if I can help it.A moan: a few weeks ago I bought a really nice pop-up card on Amazon but when it came the delivery driver didn't ring the bell to be buzzed in but bent the envelope (and therefore the card) to get it through the letterbox. I complained and received a refund. I ordered it again for someone else's birthday (thinking it will almost certainly be a different delivery drive and it won't happen twice). It arrived to day and the same thing has happened. It's so annoying; surely they must realise that whatever is inside is going to be bent.7
